Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
my daughter wants a 1 on 1 sat private tutor. i know it is expensive but i believe it is worth the money for her education. i wanted to know what company has the best private tutors such as testmasters or princeton review or kaplan? or more specifically in the southwest houston/ sugar land area? but if i use a tutor from a company, what would be the best one to choose?
The best tutor is your daughter herself, and perhaps a Baron’s or Princeton Review BOOK, with sample tests. A personal coach will have little effect on your daughter’s score, as opposed to independent study. There is also a 1/3 chance the coaching, for whatever reason, will result in a lower score. CollegeBoard does research on test habits and scores. Its research shows that the benefit of a personal coach is about 24 points total, an insignificant difference out of a 2400 point test. My recommendation is get your daughter a book and have her study.
I scored a 2220 my first time taking the actual test. I did significant independent study to prepare for the test.
Kaplan is really good. my friend got 2100 on the test by taking their course only.
I, on the other hand got 1700, and i was in a program called Revolution Prep. it was really cheap only $300, and they gave me a big college board book and extra materials. If you live in New York City, you should really try this program. the number is 1-800-REV-PREP
I would have done even better if I practiced their hw’s regularly, so don’t get discouraged by me score
if you’re from somewhere else, you should consider Kaplan. They provide lots of materials but its more expensive.
But also get the Princeton Review SAT from the library to practice for even a higher grade.
good luck
