Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
I took the ACT twice with a 31, but I am going to take it once more with A LOT more preparation. Should I bother taking the SAT? I want to go into a top-tier college and I really don’t mind taking it (my parents may look at me weird though, haha). Would it do me any good or should I just stick with the ACT?
I guess I could take it just to see if I do better.
If you’ve prepared for the ACT, stick to it. Most colleges accept the ACT now. You can definitely increase your score with prep, the ACT tests what you know, so the more you know, the better.
I took the ACT and got a 32 but I got 2200+ on the SAT (won’t say the exact score.. not too proud of it) and taking the SAT without preparation is really hard. I took the SAT after 2 summers of preparation, while I took one practice test before I took the ACT. I wouldn’t recommend taking the SAT unless you prepare a lot for it. ACT you can take without preparation at all really. I got a 32 on the ACT despite the fact that I got a 25 on the science section. At least for me, the ACT was a much easier test.
I guess I’m kind of rambling but.. my point is don’t bother with the SAT unless you have a lot of time to prepare for it.
EDIT: uh.. almost every college accepts ACT scores now just in case you got confused by the person who replied after me. Trust me.. I applied to colleges less than a year ago.
I think most colleges look at SAT scores more than ACT. This is what I suggest you to do. Take a practice SAT test and see what you get. If you get a pretty decent score, then go ahead take it with some preparation. Usually, I know people who do well on ACT tends to do well on SAT also.
yeah. i agree w/ the other answer. SAT and ACT are different tests for different purposes (unfortunately). ACT is for the state to make sure you learned certain stuff (it’s so you can get your diploma). SAT is for universities to have something other than grades to assess you on. i’m not sure if it’s the same everywhere, but i can speak about the UC (University of California) system and you can’t even apply to go straight out of HS if you haven’t taken your SAT. w/o SAT you have to go to jr. college and transfer in. i don’t know how "top" your top tier is, but you really need to take your SAT. i don’t think people go to JC and transfer into Yale. lol
