SAT Questions

I recently got back the scores for my first SAT:
Reading: 770
Writing: 680
Math: 560
I’m happy with all except math, which isn’t really good enough for the schools I’m considering. I’m not a bad math student (straight A’s), but English is more my strength and the hard math problems on the test were a little overwhelming, especially due to the time constraints. I took about 10 practice tests from Princeton Review and College Board and I had an SAT tutor as well, which was helpful. Besides those things, what else should I do to raise my math score? 100 points would be ideal, but I don’t know if that’s realistic before the next SAT. Also, I don’t want to jeopardize my reading and writing scores by taking the general again unless I have to because I don’t want them to be any lower. Would a higher score on an SAT II math level test suffice, or do I need to retake the reasoning test?

taking the june SAT, but will probably get a tutor over summer and take the october one for the last time…any suggestions?

I’m going into college this fall and thinking of becoming an SAT tutor. What steps do I have to take? Do I have to improve my score?

I took the April 14th ACT and scored a 32, a grade good enough to land me in my target schools (upenn, northwestern, washington university in St. Louis). Although I’ve had a tutor for the past few months for the SATs, I’m not sure I can score better than the equivalent of a 32 and taking the SAT + SAT IIs might be superfluous and a general waste of time. At the same time, however, I’m from NYC where literally everyone takes the SATs and it might appear like I’m cutting corners. My college counselor suggested it be a "family decision," leaving me to figure out my own fate.
Should I take and submit the SATs or simply settle with my ACTs?

i am currently in 11th grade and find it very overwhelming between school, clubs, sports, sat tutor, homework, drivers ed and all the other things that come with 11th grade. How did you guys and girls get through it without feeling so stressed?

How and where can I find the right people?

My high school doesn’t offer physics until senior year, which is too late. Do you think with the help of a few books and/or a tutor, it would be possible to learn enough to get a good SAT score?

Sometime within the next month or so I’d like to meet with an SAT tutor once or twice. How can I go about finding a good one? No one I know has ever used one. Thanks.
I already took the Princeton Review, it was offered free by my school. I don’t feel like it helped much. Also, I did already take the SAT once and got a really good score. I want to do even better when I take it again because my GPA isn’t great and I’m aiming for schools that are pretty tough to get into.

Hi, I am a sophomore right now, and I know that this summer is the time I need to focus on SATs the most. I really am having a hard time deciding whether I should go to a highly recommended SAT tutor place, or if I should just study on my own.

I actually want to study on my own, but I really want to do whatever’s just the best. ***Would going to a tutor (it’s a few days weekly) make my scores better rather than studying on my own from the Collegeboard SAT book? What if my score isn’t that good if I study off the book?***

Just in case this helps in answering my question, this semester I got one B and everything else were A’s. Also, I am in Honors classes at my high school and it’s not a high school where it is really easy to get A’s; you need to work for it. I’m not trying to brag, but just providing more info.

Well im planning on taking the SAT after summer and i want to be ready because my goal is to break the 2000 mold and i know that is not a easy task im not one of those people who are just gifted with test taking im more like a study your but of and get a good grade type person. Im willing to work and study hard, i was considering in investing in a good SAT tutor like a one on one thing, i think the indivual attention will do me justice.

So has anyone got one ? if so was it worth the money ? how much was the improvement ? and which company ?

If I take English Lit. AP, Physics AP & French AP, will the preparation for the AP exams be good enough for the SAT subject tests in those areas? Would I need to learn new stuff for the SAT subject tests and would I need a tutor?

I will take the SAT in October, and I’ve hired a tutor. I anticipate there will be a lot of instruction, and it is difficult for me to pay attention to someone if they talk for long periods of time. I’m unsure however of how to make the most out of tutoring, is it doing the outside assignments he gives? is it asking questions?

For those of you who have had tutors for the SAT and improved by 100+ points or more as a result, what did you do with your tutor that allowed you to make that push?

I’m applying for a job as a tutor and I’m trying to figure out the important qualities to convey in my personal statement.

I am 18 and a high school senior who will be graduating in a few days. I took my SAT only once and scored 2230, with scores of over 700 on each section. Additionally, I got perfect scores on the math and writing sections of my PSAT. I have a 4.6 GPA and have been told that I would make a great teacher, though I have never done any formal tutoring aside from volunteering to tutor a kid in Spanish a couple times after school.
While discussing the SAT, a junior I know who wanted to raise her score above 2100 (currently at 2070) asked me if I would tutor her, and her parents would pay if I could guarantee she’d score over 2100 (which I feel pretty confident I could do).
How much should I charge per hour?

i already took the SATs and was content with CR (620) and Math scores (640), but my writing score was awful (500). I really would like a tutor this summer to boost that score at least 100 points, but my dream is for all of my scores to be 650+.
Does anyone know of any excellent tutors that are in or around NJ?

how much would you pay a college student with good qualifications to tutor your child for the psat/sat, per hour?

I have tried a local tutor and my critical reading score actually decreased 20 points. I have a 620 and am looking to improve my score to the 700 range. I am a motivated student who did all the homework that was assigned, yet I still didn’t improve. during this economically troubled recession, my family cannot afford for me to have an SAT tutor. for the PSAT i had like a 980 but with writing a 1700. How can i raise both scores without the help of a tutor or a couse?

someone said that like 1 in 100 of students who DONT have a tutor do a decent job on the SAT test.

is that true?

My nephew (16) needs help with the new writing section of the SAT. Can anyone reccommend a good tutor?
