i’m a good student. i take honors//AP courses so i’m not in a bad starting position. if i study all summer and up to the test using software, the books, and flashcards, etc,.. would i be well prepared to do really well on the PSAT come october, and take and do really well on (2000+) the SAT in winter or spring? or is it best to take a classroom course?

I’m taking the PSAT’s next week, and SAT’s are just around the corner. I’d like to know of any books that are available for purchase that you can suggest. Something that is very good, and possibly had helped you immensely, in your opinion. So? Have at it (:

I have to sign up for ACT, PSAT, and SAT test prep pretty soon. I’m leaning towards Kaplan but a lot of people recommend Princeton Review. The price doesn’t really matter and both classroom courses are around the same area (,000-,000). If there is anyone out there has used kaplan or princeton prep courses review for anything at all, pleeeeaaase help! I really don’t know which one to choose…open to any suggestions.
forgot to check my grammar before I posted…sorry.

I am 18 and a high school senior who will be graduating in a few days. I took my SAT only once and scored 2230, with scores of over 700 on each section. Additionally, I got perfect scores on the math and writing sections of my PSAT. I have a 4.6 GPA and have been told that I would make a great teacher, though I have never done any formal tutoring aside from volunteering to tutor a kid in Spanish a couple times after school.
While discussing the SAT, a junior I know who wanted to raise her score above 2100 (currently at 2070) asked me if I would tutor her, and her parents would pay if I could guarantee she’d score over 2100 (which I feel pretty confident I could do).
How much should I charge per hour?
Thank you!!

some of my friends are taking SAT classes with teachers to prepare them for the real SAT. one of the classes lasts 4 months and costs 0..

im thinking of going to SAT seminars which hand out practice tests and tell you strategies.. plus i already have 3 SAT prep books

i dont know how much a teacher would help me, ive been told that the more practice tests and problems i do the better i will become at the SAT

i only missed one problem on the math portion of the PSAT (got a 75) and my writing score went up 6 points.. but my reading went down a point.. if that helps with suggesting if i should take SAT classes or not

I’m in 10th grade now, and I’m a pretty good student. I have a 3.74 GPA UW, and 4.16 W. But I’m not that great of a standardized test taker. I fell that I have potential and maybe a class would help. We took a standardized test to enter our H.S., and I scored a 89(out of 100), while some of my peers in the Honors program who I have higher or pretty much same grades as scored grades such as 99, 97, 96 and a few more like that. I word hard and I want to make sure my SAT/ACT scores don’t drag me down when I apply for college.
I’d also like to try and do well on the PSAT, trying to become a National Merit Finalist, some university’s give really nice schollys for that.

Thanks, I was just wondering if I should shell out 00 for a basic course on PSAT/SAT at PR or Kaplan.

Like I said, I have potential, but I’m going to have to work at it.

Ohh and I’m taking the "Plan" (pre-ACT) test this week. That should give me more feedback on what I need to study and maybe how badly I’d need this class.

Thanks

I am currently a junior right now and I am taking the SAT for the first time this saturday. The problem is I have never taken any prep-course for it. A few months ago I took the PSAT and i scored 122/240 which is super horrible. I heard that SAT is so much harder and with 5 days left i do not know what to do. Can anybody tell me what i should do to prepare and get a good score on the SAT?. plus, what is in the SAT?

thank you very much

I am going to be a Junior in September, which means i will be taking my PSAT’s again. As a sophmore, i got a 65 on CR, a 57 on Math and a 52 Writing. My hope is that my PSAT Princeton Review Course will help pick those up at least into 200+, (Just under 30 points more than i got last year.) Has anyone ever taken a Princeton Review Course? If so, what was your experience, in terms of grades? What else can i do in addition to the PSAT course?

Oh yeah, i also purchased an SAT Course that begins 01/16/10 and i will take the SAT in March ‘10. Once again, what was your experience taking an PR SAT course, in terms of grades? Did they really help?
Please be honest and i’m looking foward to your answers =]
Any other tips/advice/etc will be greatly appreciated

I usually am an 85-90 gpa student and when i take major tests i end up getting 70-75’s. I bombed my psat’s. Is there any help for me to concentrate better on tests or any advice out there??
Im worried about the SATs enormously!! plz help

Are the Princeton Review SAT practice test generally harder than the Sat and other prep books?
I took the Barron’s 2400 practice test and I got a score in the range of 1450-1520. I got a 1580 on the PSAT. I took the PR sat practice test and I got a 1210!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… I’m so annoyed. Now I really dont know where I stand in terms of SAT performance.

how much would you pay a college student with good qualifications to tutor your child for the psat/sat, per hour?

I’m a high school junior and I’m taking the SAT probably in May.
I’ve never done any PSAT or SAT prep course before, but I have taken the PSAT twice. First score was 176, second was 181.

So should I take any SAT prep course at all? TestTakers is doing a program at my school, and it’s slightly over 1k. Has anyone heard of it and can tell me if it’s worth the money? What about the Princeton Review course? How much is that one in comparison to TestTakers?
Thanks in advance. :D

I’m going to be a junior, and my mom wants me to take a review classes for the SAT/ACT. I only want to focus on one of them, but I don’t know which one to pick. I got a 143 on my PSAT, and a 22 (with projected 23-27 on the ACT) on my PLAN. Have review classes for either test been shown to be more conducive to score improvement than the other? And if not, which one should I take based on my scores?

What are the best ways to study for the SAT tests? Specifically, the best books, preparatory courses, practice tests, helpful studying website sources, etc, etc, etc…Do I need to take the PSAT? Please help, all you high SAT scorers!!! :)

By the way, I live in California and I hope to attend USC, UCLA, Stanford…? So if you have info on required GPA & SAT scores, that would be helpful…

i’ve already taken the psat (i got a 180ish)… im now doing the gruber’s SAT prep book. should i take the risk taking the SAT before doing a real prep course? i need AT LEAST a 2000!! thanks

during this economically troubled recession, my family cannot afford for me to have an SAT tutor. for the PSAT i had like a 980 but with writing a 1700. How can i raise both scores without the help of a tutor or a couse?

Hi i am a rising junior and was wondering which class would be better?

i am taking the PSAT on October 14th, 2009 and the SAT in may 2010.

Which would be more helpful overall?

both classes take place form september 10th to october 20th.

On my psat, I got 620, 700, and 510 :( on reading, math, and writing respectively. I am considering a prep course, maybe kaplan or princeton. But I also have the books from a kid who took the kaplan course last year.

Is it possible to raise my score to at least 2100 through self-studying or should I take a prep course?

Thanks in advance

I took the Barron’s 2400 practice test and I got a score in the range of 1450-1520. I got a 1580 on the PSAT. I took the PR sat practice test and I got a 1210!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so annoyed. Now I really dont know where I stand in terms of SAT performance.

I’m talking about The Official SAT Study Guide by The College Board
http://www.amazon.com/Official-SAT-Study-Guide/dp/0874477182/ref=pd_ts_b_1/102-1717230-4060951?ie=UTF8&s=books

I’m taking the SAT next year as a junior and right now im about to take the PSAT in 2 weeks, should I buy this book? or will they publish a new one soon?

i’ve only taken the psat
and my scores are the following
reading- 53
math-65
writing- 46
goal= stanford

I’m taking the SAT in March and the one in June, and my English teacher told me the best way to prepare for it was to read read read. So I’m asking you guys which books are good for SAT preparation.

I took the PSAT a few months ago and my score was average, but my weakest area was the reading. So I would really appreciate if you could recommend me some good fiction books that help build vocabulary and the like. (btw, my teacher said classics are the best, but WHICH classics is the question here)

Thank you in advance. :)

Should i read any books (if so, what) or take any PSAT somewhere or do online courses or what. Name what to do

Well, I’ve browsed through just about half of the search results for "SAT prep course" on yahoo answers, but I still can’t find the answer for the question I had.

A little background on me: I’m a busy HS Junior, i made 176 on the PSAT last year, (lowest was Crit Reading (54), highest was Math (66))… I think I did substantially better on this year’s, but I don’t know yet. I bought a PSAT book from Kaplan for the PSAT and went over the CR section and writing so-so. I had the book for a while, but I didn’t really use it until a week before the exam :(…. I did the three practice tests and got 200+ on all of them. (highest was 212, lowest was 201)

Anyway! My question is:
Should I take the Kaplan SAT course (Princeton Review isnt offered in my area)?? Does anyone think it could help someone like me? Does it raise scores substantially? Or would I do better just buying a book? (Remember, I am a student who is busy and has little time, and is not very self-starter-y and probably wouldnt use the book as much as I should and would probably cram 1-2 weeks before the test)

I dont want to have to spend 00 on something targeted to students who really have it worse than I do, because i want to break 2100+ on the SAT… So yeah…

My high school invited me and about 20 other students to retake the PSAT as a junior in hopes of qualifying for the National Merit Scholarship. The school offered counseling and encouragement, but no help with test review.

Which prep course is preferred? Princeton Review or Kaplan or other? Would I benefit from a class review (about 0) or online review or would a good PSAT review book be sufficient? Also, I’ll have the most time to prep during the summer versus early next fall due to heavy AP course load next year, but I wonder if I’ll score higher if I study closer to the time of the exam. Are the classes worth 0?

I’ll also be taking the SAT the same year. Any hints about how best to prepare for both? Thanks.

Sophomore PSAT score 187; class rank top 7% soph year (with AP courses).
