PostHeaderIcon Are Princeton Review SAT tutors worth the money/help me achieve my goal score?

I took my SAT’s for the first time as a sophomore this december. My results were as follows; 570-Reading, 590-Math, 510-Writing 8-essay. My goal score is a 2100 for my last time. For this test I didn’t prepare at all so that I would have a baseline. Will a private tutor help me to rise my score? When should I get it in the middle of my junior year or this year? Are the tutors as helpful as everyone says as well?

PostHeaderIcon Need help! i bought an online course and i took the practice sat test and i got… is this good/bad/average?

Critical Reading : 490
Writing: 570
(MC: 57, Essay: 8)
Math: 450

whats my total score? and if this were my real sat score would it get me into decent colleges?

PostHeaderIcon Could I break 2000 on SAT?

I just took a practice exam for SAT with no real preparation at all since last summer. (I attended SAT summer school back in sophmore summer and took online class for SAT in junior year summer)
I got 610 on math, 580 on Reading, and 540 on Writing with 8 on the essay.
If I study over the summer and take the test in the fall of 2008(since I am going to be a senior), what are the chances that I would score over 2000?

PostHeaderIcon Is an 1890 a good SAT score on a diagnostic test?

I’m new to the whole grading system for SAT scores.
I just took a diagnostic test for my SAT prep class. I’m just starting classes, and my diagnostic test score was 1890. I got a 570 in critical reading, 640 in math, and 680 in writing.

The class is supposed to raise my score up to 300 points. Am I on a good enough track to get into USC (University of Southern California)?

PostHeaderIcon Would a SAT prep class help with ASVAB score?

My fiance took the asvab and scored a 32 when he needed a 50 to enlist. We are trying to look for a tutor but have had no luck. I was wondering if a sat prep class teaches similar stuff to the problems on the ASVAB. He needs help on math and english parts of the test. And the asvab study books are not what we are looking for.

PostHeaderIcon I work for an online SAT prep company. We launched recently but our product hasn’t taken off. Any ideas?

We’ve had some sales and marketing difficulty. For one, we haven’t figured out the best marketing strategies to drive people to our site. Second, we haven’t been able to convert prospective clients into customers.

That said, I’d like to get some insight from Yahoo Answers! experts on how I can help to drive business.

To let you in on a little more about our company, we offer a video-based online test prep service. We have hundreds of video lessons and explanations to help students with their Math, Critical Reading, and Writing development. Currently, we offer SAT and PSAT courses. Also, from our research, we’ve found that the the target customers are high school parents and students.

Thanks for your help!

PostHeaderIcon How much can I improve on my SATs?

Hello. I’m currently a freshman and I took the SATs for the first time and got a 1680.
Math: 700
Reading: 500
Writing: 480
I currently have private SAT tutors and use special SAT guide books. How much can I improve by the end of my sophomore year? Any tips? (Aiming for 2000+)

PostHeaderIcon Math 2(subject test) Prep book?

What SAT Subject Test: Math II prep book would you say is the best? Thank you very much

PostHeaderIcon Which SAT test prep books are the best?

I haven’t taken the SATs yet, and I want to score at least 2000. I know I can easily achieve 1900, but I want to challenge myself.

I recently came to the US from Australia and as the teaching styles are quite different, it was a bit hard for me to adjust, particularly in math. If the test prep book explains mathematical concepts thoroughly, that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance! :)

PostHeaderIcon 4 more week of SAT prep…or BAND AND DRUMLINE?

this entire summer, i have spent 3 days per week going to SAT prep. tuesdays were math for 6 straight hours. thursdays were critical reading/writing for 3 straight hours. fridays were vocabulary and grammar for 4 straight hours. i have completed 10 hours of SAT prep this summer, and that was what i had signed up for. my score went up from 1800 (PSAT) to 2030 (practice SAT at the prep place). useful, yes. but theres apparently a 14 week program as well, meaning i could still sign up for it and go during all of september. i wouldn’t mind going, for the sake of the SAT test in October/November (still need to try to switch dates…). however..i have band and drumline. i have tuesday night band practice and thursday/fridays are possible football game days. i have a new band director who’s pretty hardcore and strict, and he’ll definitely lower my grade if i don’t come to those practices. plus, i don’t want to have to worry about attending SAT prep while going to school. i really have no idea what to do.
this is really urgent…i wish i posted this question up sooner….please, so any advice on what to do?
sign up for the 4 weeks and screw up band and drumline, or set aside the 4 weeks and just go for it…
and i apologize that this is so long.

PostHeaderIcon SAT Prep courses: need recommendations please!?

Hey, so background info real quick: took the SAT in March 09, and scored a 1790 (cr: 550, math: 620, writing: 620.) see, i had taken a prep course through sylvan learning center, but i truly do not think it made a difference. it was a very weak (but unfortunately expensive) course and i really need to increase my score, seeing as my dream school is Georgetown!!!

my goal SAT is roughly a 2100. if you have a course you want to recomend, thanks so very much. :)

so, anyone have any suggestions on test prep centers that are GOOD!!!??? Put money aside for a moment, and just speak loud and clear please. I really need that score and am willing to study and prep as much as possible for it. so if you know of a great prep place in the houston area of texas, please, please, please let me know.

PostHeaderIcon What books/study guides should I get for the SAT?

I didn’t do so hot on my P-SAT.. 1530.. and I’m wanting to bring it up like by at least 200 or 300 points
I am thinking about getting
‘ The Official SAT Study Guide’ by college board
as well as ‘Hot Words for the SAT’

are there any other books i need to get?
such as those that focus entirely on critical reading or math?
if so what ones would you recommend?

PostHeaderIcon Anyone Taken The SAT (10 Points)?

Is the writing really hard to do well on? At this SAT preparation course students, including my friend and I, took practice tests similar to the SAT, which I know because of taking tests from the blue College Board book and asking another friend who took the SAT and the same course when she was our age, about 2-3 years ago.

My friend got an 800 on writing, and I got a 740, but for some reason when she took the real SAT (I haven’t yet), she only scored a 600. What gives? She was really good at writing and did assignments for 25 minutes in 10 minutes, getting maybe 1 wrong. Also the person who is most likely gonig to be valedictorian at our school only got a 710.

Any tips? In the College Board book I’m scoring in the 700s, getting only maybe 4 wrong with. I think my essays are pretty good. I need a good writing score because math is the easiest for me, probably a pretty easy 770+, but critical reading I’m only getting mid to high 600s. I was counting on the writing, which is easy for me, to get me around 2150-2200, but people aren’t doing good on it. Why?? Advice???
Also, on the PSAT I got a 68 on writing (HOWEVER, only 3 were wrong and none blank; it must have been a bad curve, and after looking at the PSAT I realized one or two of those errors were really stupid mistakes).
I know I need a good score for good colleges. I don’t really need help with writing since I’m getting almost every question right under timed conditions. I just don’t get why such smart people are doing so poorly, including my friend who got an 800 on writing for a practice test similar to the SAT.

PostHeaderIcon What can you suggest to get my SAT scores up?

I got a 1900 total and an 11 on the essay. I’m signed up to take them again in October.

Math: 670
Reading:590
Writing:640

What can you suggest to get the reading in particular up? Vocab flashcards?

I already have had a tutor and a class, so I can’t pay for another. I have books as well.

Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon What is the best SAT prep book for the Math section?

I’m just wondering, because I don’t really know how to prepare for math on the SAT(Not the subject test).

PostHeaderIcon Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide 2009 is it any good?

Alright well I took my SAT last month and did poorly on Reading/Writing. I did do good on math aleast but I need to retake it and with most college applications being due Jan 15 I am signed up to take it again for Dec so I can get my scores back in time to send them off to colleges.

Now I only have a month and I want to make sure I get the best book out there to help me cause im pretty much going to lock myself in my room haha and study this book all day and night learning new techniques and strategies.

Do you all recommended any other books out there? Or am I good with this one.

PostHeaderIcon How do i improve my aweful SAT scores?

I took the SATs, and I got 360 in critical reading, 480 in math, and 520 in writing. Should I get a tutor? I heard it helps a lot. I want to get into a top university, and I am going to be a high school freshie next year. How much studying should I do as of now?

PostHeaderIcon What is a good SAT study guide?

I’ve pretty much got the math down (although I want to practice more). But I would really like a book with good vocabulary and lots of hints for the verbal (CR) and writing sections. Also the same or another book with pleanty of practice. And if you have one that proved useful overall please do mention it. Thanks ahead of time.

PostHeaderIcon Great SAT score of 1840 but math was only 510…?

My daughter just took the SAT and got an overall score of 1840 – 680 for reading, 650 for writing, an 11 out of 12 on her essay, and a dismal 510 in math. Obviously, she’s not going to be studying anything math-related in college! She has a 3.5 GPA and is in the upper 1/3 of her class of about 600 kids. Knowing that she’ll be going into an English-related field, how will colleges look at her SAT scores? And aside from hiring a SAT-tutor (is that even worthwhile?), how can we help her get these scores up to a more respectable number? She did similarly well on the ACT – composite score of 26, with excellent results in the English sections, and not-so-great results in math. She’s interested in attending Hillsdale College, Carleton College, Colby College or perhaps Middlebury. Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon How many SAT II courses are there?

Can someone please tell me i have a final tommorow.

PostHeaderIcon How do I go about becoming an SAT tutor?

I’m going into college this fall and thinking of becoming an SAT tutor. What steps do I have to take? Do I have to improve my score?

I only took it once and got
Math 800
Reading 730
Writing 770

PostHeaderIcon which SAT II test can be self taught?

i need another SAT II test… i took US History and Literature and my scores were acceptable… but i don’t have a third test… i’m thinking about Math II and Chemistry, but i won’t be ready until the end of the year and the last test date for my college is in Oct.

so is there a test that can be easily self taught?

also

why isn’t there free test prep for the SAT IIs like there is for the ACT/SAT?

PostHeaderIcon Possible to raise SAT scores?

I’m a sophmore and took PSAT this year. I was soo disappointed by my score:137.
36 on critical reading
51 in math
50 in writing

I have 4.0 GPA right now
but I came to America when i was in 5th grade so my english skills need more work.

but when i took time and redid the same test, i got over twice as much right.

My goal is to get at least 1800 on SAT…. I’m going to get help from SAT tutoring center…

Do you think its possible???
