my friend bought 2 laptops, and a desktop on black friday of last yr.

i already have a laptop mainly for school, internet, and movies, but hes selling an HP desktop for 300 bucks. its never been used, and is still in the box. i need a desktop for other use(gaming). should i buy it?

I’m going to be entering college, fall 2009, and I’m an art major. I really don’t know what kind of laptop I should get. It seems that every art school uses Macs, but I’ve never used one before.

For preference, I want something that has high quality graphics (again, art major) and can run Photoshop and Illustrator well, has a lot of memory, and is relatively light.

I have an apple wireless network. The wi-fi thing that i have for my x-box won’t work with the apple network. X-box is Microsoft. I have a laptop though. How do i get my x-box to work through my laptop? I plug the two together, then what? I test connection and it does not work. My computer is an hp. Any help?

so i pluged it in right…went to testing screan and it said the wireless network is not connected….I have a wireless network at home and im using my laptop right now….what do i have to do to make it work???? I put in the WPA and its still not working…it says the network is not connected…WHAT DO I DO???

I am a university econoimcs student and I am looking for a budget affordable laptop anywhere beteen 600-1500 dollars. I want a fast PC that I can use at home to listen to music, maybe play games, dvds, the basic stuff for a computer. I don’t want a piece of crap computer, I want a good computer, but not necessarily a desktop replacement, obviously for my price range. What are your opinions… is a macbook worth it @ 1500? with 2.4 ghz only 250 gb and 2gb of memory 128mb video card

or should i go with more of a dell or something with 2.0ghx, 4gb ram, 250 gb memory, 256 mb video card..

I used to play chess via messenger with a friend. Now when I send an invite, or he sends me an invite, I get a little square with a red x in the top left corner of the screen. JAVA is installed correctly, at least according to the test on the java website. Please help! This is really frustrating! (months ago it worked, then it didn’t, then two weeks ago it worked, and now it doesn’t.)
All this trouble started when I got a new laptop with Vista…

I’m a design student and on a budget. I really like macs and I use them all the time a school. This computer has all of the software I’ll need and it looks like it could be a really great buy. I’m just not sure I want to sacrifice the mobility of a laptop for a desktop. Plus, there is no warranty.

The HP PC I’m looking at is really nice. It’s ,000 and would be able to do what I want it to, but I would have to purchase the Adobe Creative Suite (which won’t be too bad since I can get it for 0 with the student discount). Also, I really don’t want to deal with viruses. My Toshiba got hit this past March and I had to completely wipe the hard drive and re-install xp to even get things up and running again.

I am taking online courses in visual basic and web design for my senior year. My desktop computer is almost eight years old and completely unreliable. On top of that my brother has a lot of games installed on it that I can’t take off because it’s a family computer. I am looking to buy a laptop to use for my senior year and for college. Does anybody know any decent ones that would be good for school? I’m looking to spend no more than 0-,000.

Actually the laptop is saying that it can’t configure the "capture device" as there is another device in use.One way could be temporarily disabling the webcam.But will that be okay? I tested the same tv tuner card with desktop ,XP-SP2 loaded, it worked fine.Please help.

I have bought a brand new HP printer few days ago. Whenever i connect the printer to my laptop, it automatically takes in the paper and prints the test print followed by a prompting message on my screen asking to keep the printed paper in scanner for the alignment of cartridges. Along with this the printer software says that the cartridges are previously used. In case, if i don’t place the paper in the paper tray it keeps on prompting that the printer is out of paper. What should i do now?

I have just finished high school , and I’m about to start university; therefore, I’ definitely need to buy a laptop to use during my college years. The problem is that I don’t know which one to buy. I need a change! I have used PC (a very reliable company) all my life but I am ready to test new waters. I need a new laptop when I go to college and I am seriously considering buying a Mac. I mostly do wordprocessing, music download, internet surfing (never any gaming) kodak easyshare, itunes/ipod stuff and working with paint shop pro and graphic making programs. Is mac better for these kinds of things? please answer right away I need to make my descision soon.

I have 20 meg broadband which averages at 16 meg when I do speed tests which is very good but whenever I watch a video online it always buffers every 30 seconds or so. I use firefox and I have good laptop so why am I still getting the same video experience as when I used to have 2meg broadband? Is my ISP doing this? (i use Virgin Media) Are their any settings I can optimize for peak streaming Performance?

I have a motorola SB5120 Surfboard cable modem, I use this modem for my laptop to access the internet. I just recently got a xbox gold one month membership and i am trying to get online. I took the ethernet cable out of my computer to use it for xbox live, but every time I press test connection it fails. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have been using Kubuntu on my desktop for a year now and have abandoned all use of Windows except for my wifes PC. I am running Fluxbuntu on my server. I was not pleased with any of the ubuntu flavours on my old HP ze4400 laptop. What would be the best Linux in your opinion? Maybe even a BSD distro. It will mainly be used for wireless internet testing and troubleshooting networks and routers. Windows ran fine on it for this, I would just like to try something else for a change.

A family member just got a new laptop. I recently got a router hooked up to my DSL to share net with another desktop PC in the house, and my connection was fine. But as soon as this laptop goes on, it seems like some programs go dramatically slower. When I use certain multiplayer online games now, I lag a LOT. I’m not sure if it’s just the servers, or if this was induced by the laptop. Do laptops use more bandwidth than desktops when using the internet? If so, why? And is there a way I can test specifically if this laptop is slowing me down, like some online test I can run? I’m not sure if it’s my imagination, but since this laptop got hooked up it seems like everything I go on is really slow.

i need a laptop that i can use for school (starting college soon!) and for my music. i want the laptop to have a good amount of space so i can store my music (i have a 80gig ipod) and also at a good price (less than a ,000). i also dont want it to be heavy because ill be carrying it around for the whole day. ohyes, and im a Windows person.

i was thinking about getting a Sony Vaio, since my desktop is also a vaio. i want a good brand that can last for a LONG while. i heard Fujitsu is good because if you drop it, it wont destroy your hard drive and will still be usable because it is made from good hardware. but im open to any suggestions.

I am unable to send a file from my Nokia 5800 to my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop using Bluetooth. On my phone, I press send via Bluetooth and click on my computer’s bluetooth name. However, it says that it is unable to connect no matter how many times I try.

I have also tried to right-click on the Bluetooth Icon on my taskbar and click on Receive A File, and then try to send using my phone again. However, it still shows "Unable to connect".

I have tried to send files from my Nokia 5800 to other laptops and it was possible. Also, when I first bought the laptop, I remember sending a file using Bluetooth from my phone to the laptop just to test if it was working, and it was successful. However, it doesn’t work now.

Please help.
