I was going to buy a new computer but i don’t know what to buy Laptop or desktop. I use a computer for school, sometimes games, videos, browse the web, other things to. i want something that is fast, and doesn’t take a long time to load because i have high speed internet. But a laptop is small and dose not take up alot of room. But desktops screens r bigger and nicer. For laptops u have to buy a wireless router,and wireless printer. Not for desktop….i have previously owned a desktop and hav a printer ,So, what to buy???

I have a laptop with a long story, but to make it short I am able to boot and use the machine while on ac power. When I remove the ac adapter the comp dies immediately. The battery never changes from 36% as long as its plugged in. I figure the connector on the mobo that attaches to the battery is the culprit, and I have a multi meter to use, I just don’t know which contacts to test. It also may just be a bad mobo since while on that pc my router can’t hold an internet signal for more than a few seconds. On my other laptop the internet has been fine. Does that sound like a bad mobo or am I being an idiot?
I should add that this problem existed previously, I bought a new battery which didn’t work. Then I bought a new ac adapter that didn’t work. Then I bought a new mobo that didn’t work, which led me back to the ac adapter. Turned out the one I bought was bad out of the box. So I tried one a friend had, it worked with the new battery and mobo. So I figured if that adapter worked maybe the old mobo would too. The old mobo has an upgraded video card. I threw the old one back in and bam, problem solved. But now about a week later I’m starting to run into the same problem again. I’m just confused about why it started working again with the new adapter then without provocation stopped again.

Also, the first time the problem arose it started with the battery not charging, then escalated to the battery draining while plugged into ac. Hence the new batt first, then the new ac adapter.

It’s also a dell which sucks, but it has a good processor and a decent video card.

i applied for fafsa and i live in california. if i get approved for fafsa and not all the money gets used for my college what happens to the rest of it? they said i could get 5300 dollars, but my college will only cost about 1500. so where is the rest of that 5300 going to go? straight to me? or does it get saved for my next semester? i really need a laptop for school, which is why i am wondering what will happen to the rest of that money… and i also need to buy books. could the rest of the money be used to buy my books?

I wanted to buy a laptop to use for school and fun. My main concern is with SPEED. I don’t want to wait 3 hours for it to load while I’m using the internet. I’ll be using it to do home works on word, power point, surf the web, and hopefully being able to WRITE PROGRAMS using C++. Programming is my hobbie, so that’s why I said hopefully. Later (maybe in a year or so) depending on how long it lasts I may use it to analyze 3 dimensional structures of organic molecules (school related). So I hope now you all understand when I say I’m very concerned with speed.

My idea was to buy a laptop used for gaming since those are the fastest (from what i’ve heard), but I don’t know if those can be used for the things I intend to use it or not.

Any ideas, suggestions, are all welcome. One last detail: I prefer to stay within 00, but if you think is absolutely necessary I can go up to $ 2000 but no more.

I think there’s a little bit of a misunderstanding. I DON’T want to use my laptop to play games. Probably NEVER for that purpose. I was just thinking of buying one used for gaming since from what I hear they’re the fastest. And 1 more thing if you can please be specific telling me the name, and what you think I should buy not just refering me to a site telling me to look there. Ok thanks again, I hope I didn’t sound harsh.

I’ve went on www.igo.com and found nothing for my Toshiba Satellite A215-S5850 and I was wondering where I could find one for it for a cheap price. I tried the S5 notebook test already because it was a tip for the model no. closest to my laptops’. My laptop has been dead almost a year now because I lost the charger at a hotel and I’m a High School student eager to use it versus the desktop I’m using now. Your answers are much appreciated.

I’m planning on going to school far from home and I’m really concerned about not having a laptop for a long period of time and how much any repair would cost (I’m really bad with computer terms so simple answers would be appreciated) Thanks :]

I want to buy a Laptop for school and for home use, I want one thats a good size and a good brand and not to expensive (Its would help if it had a webcam in it

I can’t here anything on Yutube either. I’m using a laptop with an external mic connected. IMy mic is working I tested it on another computer. I checked all the audio settings & it says the components are working.

My school requires all students to buy a MacBook Laptop from them for all four years of highschool. The students may take these laptops home and use the as thier own. I was wondering, does the school have acess to looking at any students history on the laptop through a different computer? like one of thos key copy things..?

A small research project from Yefim Sheynkin at the State University of New York has found that the heat from your laptop can elevate the temperature of your scrotum by up to 2.8 degrees. That may be nice but the problem is that there is a well demonstrated link between high testicular temperature and infertility.

The team at the university plan to test whether laptops have a significant effect on the performance and quality of sperm when they look at a larger sample of men. If you are having problems concieving a baby with your partner it is maybe worth considering. Men whose sperm quality is hampering fatherhood are often told to try cooling the temperature of their scrotum by wearing looser pants and by avoiding hot baths.

The study team headed by Yefim Sheynkin have suggested heavy laptop use over a number of years "may cause irreversible or partially reversible changes in male reproductive function". We wait to see. In the meantime it may be worth placing your laptop on a table or moving it as far away from your testicles as is workable to increase your chances of parenthood.

I just want to see how well a laptop or netbook could operate using only the (mostly free) products available from Google.

Hi, i am a high school student and i am in need of a laptop for next year at college. The reason i am asking now is because, black friday is rolling around and i know there are good sales on laptops. My question is can i get a better used laptop for 0 that is say a few months old, vs. a new laptop? I want to be able to watch movies, type reports, need quick connection for power point and things like that. Also for internet.

499 is too much. I simply cant spend over 0 so 9 plus tax or shipping or whatever is too much. I would really like to keep it around 0 but i will go to 0 for a really nice laptop.

I want to buy a laptop so that we can use it on the dining room table, or in our rooms. I keep looking and can’t find one that looks like it’s worth buying unless it’s over ,000. I guess I don’t know what I need, and what I don’t need. I want it to be fast enough to surf the web…and for the kids to do school work on, other than that, just what ever games they play online, and to print pictures. What would y’all suggest? I want to spend between 0 and 0 tops! OH- and we have a cable modem now, do we have to cancel that and go with a dsl? I’m confused.

It used to last six hours when I first got my computer. But, now it only lasts for a hour and a half. Do I need to buy a new battery or laptop? Because I’m going to school soon and I don’t want to have to charge it everytime I go to use it. Is there anything I can do?m The battery setting was on power saver, but then I made a new setting and it works better but still only lasts for a half hour on a full charge. Is there anything I can do?

Okay, I’m trying to run a game and I received an error message saying, "failed to find any directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter in this system". I’m using this link: http://www.thesimszone.co.uk/knowledge/index.php?ID=1780, to find out what the problem is.

I’ve played this game on this laptop before, so I know it’s able to handle the game, but my computer was wiped of all information a while ago, so this graphics never got updated.

I’m a college student and interested in getting a new laptop. I’m not new to computers however with Vista just coming out and new things since I have bought a computer I’m wondering what I should look for?

Any problems you know of with Vista? I will be using the laptop mainly for school assignments and internet use. I want one that will connect to the internet when out somewhere. Do you have to subscribe to this and how does it work? What is that called so that I can make sure I buy one where I’m able to access the net while not at home.

I currently have a desktop pc running xp and a laptop which was upgraded to windows vista ultimate.

I no longer use the laptop and want to test windows 7 out on it to see if I like it. If I do this will that free up the activation key I used on my laptop and let me use it to upgrade my desktop to vista ultimate?

Having problems booting my laptop, as soon as Windows logo screen finishes loading, I get a blue screen and instantly restarts…ran diagnostics, and it failed a dst short test…anyway, that’s a long story, but my CURRENT problem is that for some reason, I can’t seem to access the Recovery Console via CD, nor even boot with CD. It acts the same as if I had chosen to boot from HDD…I hit F12 and choose to boot from CD, but it still goes to "We apologize for the inconvenience…", etc etc, then still hits the blue screen and flashes and restarts.

I’m using an XP 3 disk from the Microsoft website, downloaded and burned myself (I tested it on another laptop and it loads fine, though I can’t tell if it boots fine since I have Vista on this one).

Am I missing a step or doing something wrong? What do I do?

I’m in the midst of installing my Vonage device. However, the Ethernet port on my laptop doesn’t work. I tested this using my cable modem; it works if I use the USB cable versus Ethernet. Unfortunately, my Vonage device works on Ethernet. I’d like to know if anyone has run into the same issue and if they were able to fix the problem. I’m waiting for Vonage Customer Support to contact me; not sure if I will need an Ethernet-USB adapter.

I need a laptop for school and want to use some of my financial aid to buy one but don’t want to have to wait for 6 weeks to get the money in the mail. Does anyone know if they sell laptops like in their book/supply stores? I am going to one in Omaha, Nebraska if that matters.

I’m trying to use Voip to make a call but the test call won’t record my voice so I obviously either don’t have a microphone built-in or it’s turned off. Is there a way I can figure it out?

I tested my download speed at speakeasy.net/speedtest .
I have 2 computers. One computer is a laptop, I bought a USB Wireless adapter for it, the laptop runs on Windows ME. It’s DL speed is about 4700 kpbs. On my computer which is faster than my laptop and is using WIRE, using Windows XP. It only goes at a speed of about 3000kbps. And the wire is only about 20 feet. What can I do to make the speed for my Windows XP faster? I defragged the computer already.
