I am going to be attending grad school (for 4 years) in Ohio in the fall. And I am visiting my family in Korea right now and my uncle wants to buy me a new laptop for graduation gift/being accepted to grad school. He and many others recommend SamSung laptop but I am not so sure because of these following reasons:

I have never owned a samsung laptop before (I’ve had toshiba, averatec which is piece of junk, and dell)

The samsung laptop is going to be in all in Korean. I am fluent in Korean but I am not so sure if I can have Microsoft Office in English for my school stuff.

If I am going to have valid warranty when I get to Ohio.

If I can convert my entire computer setting to English from Korean (I think I can but I am not so sure…)

If buying samsung laptop in Korea is cheaper or more expensive than buying a Dell or hp laptop in USA

I am looking for an everyday use laptop about 13-15 inch screen with 2.2-2.3 GHz processor (prefers Intel Core 2 Duo), 2-3GB memory with 250~350GB harddrive… if it’s not too much I would like a decent video card and decent battery(I’ve had bad experience with Dell 6 cell battery..)

If anyone ever have bought Samsung laptop and/or converted to English and brought back to USA and had problems (or not) please let me know. My uncle wants what’s best for me and offered to send money if it’s worth buying it in USA when I get back in the fall.

i am looking into buying a laptop from HP. I’m 16 years old and i use my laptop for school work and chatting with friends. I have an 80GB ipod classic and i have about 800 songs on it. if i want this many songs on my computer or more in the future, should i go with the 160GB hard drive or the 250GB?

i already have a laptop mainly for school, internet, and movies, but hes selling an HP desktop for 300 bucks. its never been used, and is still in the box. i need a desktop for other use(gaming). should i buy it?

I have an apple wireless network. The wi-fi thing that i have for my x-box won’t work with the apple network. X-box is Microsoft. I have a laptop though. How do i get my x-box to work through my laptop? I plug the two together, then what? I test connection and it does not work. My computer is an hp. Any help?

I’m a design student and on a budget. I really like macs and I use them all the time a school. This computer has all of the software I’ll need and it looks like it could be a really great buy. I’m just not sure I want to sacrifice the mobility of a laptop for a desktop. Plus, there is no warranty.

The HP PC I’m looking at is really nice. It’s ,000 and would be able to do what I want it to, but I would have to purchase the Adobe Creative Suite (which won’t be too bad since I can get it for 0 with the student discount). Also, I really don’t want to deal with viruses. My Toshiba got hit this past March and I had to completely wipe the hard drive and re-install xp to even get things up and running again.

I have bought a brand new HP printer few days ago. Whenever i connect the printer to my laptop, it automatically takes in the paper and prints the test print followed by a prompting message on my screen asking to keep the printed paper in scanner for the alignment of cartridges. Along with this the printer software says that the cartridges are previously used. In case, if i don’t place the paper in the paper tray it keeps on prompting that the printer is out of paper. What should i do now?

I have just finished high school , and I’m about to start university; therefore, I’ definitely need to buy a laptop to use during my college years. The problem is that I don’t know which one to buy. I am looking for something not too expensive, strong that can withstand overuse, and new. I’m kind of confused between the following three laptop brands: sony vaio, toshiba, and hp. Which brand do u people suggest?

I have been using Kubuntu on my desktop for a year now and have abandoned all use of Windows except for my wifes PC. I am running Fluxbuntu on my server. I was not pleased with any of the ubuntu flavours on my old HP ze4400 laptop. What would be the best Linux in your opinion? Maybe even a BSD distro. It will mainly be used for wireless internet testing and troubleshooting networks and routers. Windows ran fine on it for this, I would just like to try something else for a change.

Well, for getting Honor Roll in my school, my dad promised me to buy me a laptop, also since im going to high school, and the one i already have is 5 years old now. And just wondering if laptops are any cheaper during the ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’ events.

I don’t of course expect Apple to lower the price to their mac book, but i kinda have a feeling about dell or HP, or maybe sony vaio Hopely.

Also any suggestions on laptops with webcam that a high schools would use?

I am ending my junior year in high school and have been thinking about buying a laptop for school and entertainment use for many months now, but I am not sure what would be best. I have tried looking through a lot of those computer rating websites but after looking I just want to give up. I’m not so worried about the price seeing as I will have this computer for quite a while, but I need these specifications at least:
—able to play DVD/CD (my current computer cannot anymore =[ )
---has a Web cam built in
---Can play somewhat graphics-demanding games (Especially Tomb Raider: Underworld and also the Sims 2, because my current computer cannot play this one due to its ghetto dvd/cd drive)
---and possibly a cool design on it? I love art and design and would love some on the computer.

As for screen size, price, and memory, I don't care all that much.

(I have looked at MacBooks, which seem really cool except they are not gaming computers from what I have heard [lame!] and I also have looked into the HP Pavillion dv2800t Artist Edition, but again, I don’t know if that computer could play my games?!)

What is a good brand of laptop to buy now a days? I am willing to spend between 0-800. I heard that HP is one of the best to get, Compaq on the other hand has some major flaws. But what about Toshiba? Sony? I am using the laptop for some gaming, but mostly school work.

i’m deciding which laptop to buy. I am going to buy either the HP 17" Pavilion Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.67GHz Laptop or HP HP 15.4" Pavilion Turion X2 TL-60 2.0GHz Laptop or other HP or other brand laptops. In your opinion, which laptop is the best for me to use it? I am just going to use the laptop for school.

I’m using HP Pavilion dv2911us laptop running Windows Vista Home Edition.

The problem started when I was arguing with someone online and started banging on my keyboard while typing out of frustration and all of the sudden, the screen messed up and began to show rainbows etc. So I manually rebooted by taking out the battery. After trying to load Windows up normally (not in safe mode), it reached an error screen that said something like Windows cannot start up, we suggest launching start up repair, so I do it and it loads some files and eventually reaches a black screen and just stay there. I can see my mouse cursor and move it but that’s it.

After attempting to do that several times repeatedly, I eventually tried entering BIOS and doing random things. One of those things was the Hard Drive Self Test under Diagnostics. However, the test would always fail, giving me a test status of error #1-07 fail. What does that mean?

What exactly is the problem? What is the solution? Thanks in advance!

I have an HP Pavilion ZT1260. One day, the screen becomes VERY dim, and I can’t see it. All the images are still there, and if you look at the right angle, you can operate the laptop. If I plug it into an external monitor, I can use the laptop with the external monitor no prob. Extensive research on the web tells me it’s very likely either a bad inverter or a bad backlight, and most likely the former. Who can tell me a way to test and be sure what it is?

i’ve tried using "password" and not entering a password at all and it still doesn’t work. the computer is an hp compaq nc6000 and the operating system is windows xp professional.

Hi Ive been searching for a laptop for school and I have 2 laptops that I really like. I want a laptop that is good with notes and organization and multimedia. I don’t really care abt battery life because I can order a bigger battery if I need to. but my two picks that’s I like are the HP Touchsmart tx2z or the HP Pavilion dv2z. and my budget is 00
maximum. and I’m using it for highschool. Please let me know which laptop you think I should get or recommend another nice laptop for school for 00 or under. Thanks

My mother is 80 years old… but she insisted she wanted to try computing. I bought her a loaded HP Pavillion with entertainment options and widescreen display. She used it occassionally for six months and she called and said it wouldn’t turn on. The lights all come up but system would not boot. She shipped it to me and it seemed to be working fine. I used the HP support sight to check it out (re-seated the RAM and tested the AC adaptor) but everything looked good and finally sent it back to her. But after working off and on for six more months it has completely died. Now HP says they can’t/won’t replace it. All my personal equipment is Dell and works perfectly. The HP seems like crap to me. What do you think?

k for christmas, i got a hp desktop but decided to return it cause i dont need a computer that powerful. So i decided to buy a laptop for school use and around the house. Since i’m getting it for school, i’ll be lookin at some of the netbooks, 10 inch screen. I have no clue what to get, i’ve got it down to around 3 or 4. The main uses i will get out of it will be for schoolwork, music, internet, and maybe some videos and pictures.

-Samsung NC10
-MSI Wind 10"
-Dell mini 12

Whats should i get? OR or is there a better model that i should get?
And with the best one, is there anything i should know about it?

I just bought a brand new HP dv6000 2g 160g hard drive and AMD turion x2. I’ve fully charged it and discharged it 3 times but today i tested it by using the laptop in "power save mode" (which is the one that suposedlly uses the least amount of electricity), i used the internet and the battery only lasted 2 hours and 4 minutes before it shutdown on me for not having enough power! The laptop is brand new so i’m wondering whether the battery life is normal or it needs to be exchanged for another one

I want to test a Used Acer computer LCD monitor that I might buy from someone in town 2nd hand. Of course I want to test it before but dont know what I should take (cables) along with my 2 year old HP laptop. Nor do I know HOW to do it . Any tips/ideas???
