1. I hate the SAT and i have almost a 4.0 GPA overall, so im smart but horrible at SAT testing ive tried SAT prep courses it just isnt working for me so what are some good SAT optional colleges?

2. do students from these colleges succeed better in the workplace than students from SAT required colleges?

please anything you know will help!

Hey I took the World History AP test about mid May and now I am signed up for the World History SAT II. The thing is I just started taking the test on the REA preparation book for SAT II and it is much much much harder and specific then what I encountered on the AP exam. Is the SAT subject test really more specific then the AP test?

Thanks for answering
to first poster, Yeah I know AP classes really are useless, like it doesn’t help only makes it easier to register for classes. But it sort of looks better for colleges along with a GPA boost.
to 2nd poster:……………………………..
to 3rd poster: Yeah like what the heck is the Velvet Revolution I learned nothing that specific and the AP test multiple choice was nothing like that. I didn’t even bother to score my 1st practice test because I did so badly and knew like crud. Hopefully it will be more AP oriented multiple choice.

I need help on deciding where to go for SAT prep classes. I am currently a junior in High School and when I took the SAT in December I scored a 1570 on it. After seeing this I realized that I couldn’t study alone and that I need help.

My original plan was to attend Elite’s summer boot camp which is ,200 (which is overpriced IMO). Friends tell me that all they do there is give you a crap load of work and test and expect you to do good on the SAT after that. My friend has the same GPA as me and got the same exact score on the SAT and after taking this course he achieved over 2000.

On the other hand I’ve heard things about Revolution Prep. They are much cheaper and they don’t give you a lot of stuff to do, but rather techniques and strategies to beat the SAT. I’ve only heard from one person that he was able to get 1900 after taking a 6 week course.

I need your suggestions on which of these I should go to, or any other test prep classes for the summer. Please don’t give me links to goggle searching "SAT Prep Classes" I can do that myself. Also please do not say "SAT Prep Courses are a waste of money, don’t do them" because your not contributing to my question.

im really bummed out right out because i got a 1570 out of 2400 on my sat. i’ve been taking practice tests and i get at least 1650 but the real test seemed so much harder for me and i have no idea why. the math concepts were different than the prep tests i took. SATS are really difficult for me for some reason i mean i get good grades with a 3.9 unweighted gpa but the SAT is just a different feel. this is my first time taking it and i am a junior. ALSO if i retake it and do A LOT BETTER do they take the higher score?

im kinda worried at the moment because i want to go to a college such as UCSD UCD UCI which requires high SAT scores and good grades.

So for SAT tutors my parents refused to get me one because their so expensive, so I just said forget it, ill take it and see how good or bad I do and guessing I won’t do good knowing that I got an 1120 on PSAT out of 2400. My grades I don’t worry about at all I get A’s and B’s and my gpa is a 3.0. If I take the sat and get around 1200 to 1400 am I really in trouble when applying to college? Even with my decent grades and extra curricular, sports all of that? Like If I where to apply to ASU, or pace in nyc, michigan state, florida atlantic university, would I really have a chance to getting in or with those horrible sat scores would my best shot be community college?

My daughter just took the SAT and got an overall score of 1840 - 680 for reading, 650 for writing, an 11 out of 12 on her essay, and a dismal 510 in math. Obviously, she’s not going to be studying anything math-related in college! She has a 3.5 GPA and is in the upper 1/3 of her class of about 600 kids. Knowing that she’ll be going into an English-related field, how will colleges look at her SAT scores? And aside from hiring a SAT-tutor (is that even worthwhile?), how can we help her get these scores up to a more respectable number? She did similarly well on the ACT - composite score of 26, with excellent results in the English sections, and not-so-great results in math. She’s interested in attending Hillsdale College, Carleton College, Colby College or perhaps Middlebury. Thanks!

Our 17 yr old just got his results from his SAT he scored a 1280, lower than his first score of 1385 back in March. We were not happy with the 1385 and sent him to the Princeton Review tutoring course for the June SAT test. Can’t believe he scored lower! When I told him his score, I got an’oh well’. Oh well?!? What the heck is that? He said he’s not taking the SAT again & will take the ACT in Oct. He just doesn’t get the reality of this. He wants to go away to college, yet doesn’t get it thru his head that a 1385 isn’t really good. His GPA is 3.02 (freshman thru junior years, he’ll be a senior in Sept.). As far as a resume from his 1st 3 years in high school, he played jv golf for 1 year, has worked as a counselor in the summer for the past 3 years, he’s not involved in any extra-curricula activities in school, but will be volunteering this summer.
What I’m looking for is feed-back or advice to give him. Even let me know if I’m expecting too much, 1st & only child. THANKS!

I’m a sophmore and took PSAT this year. I was soo disappointed by my score:137.
36 on critical reading
51 in math
50 in writing

I have 4.0 GPA right now
but I came to America when i was in 5th grade so my english skills need more work.

but when i took time and redid the same test, i got over twice as much right.

My goal is to get at least 1800 on SAT…. I’m going to get help from SAT tutoring center…

Do you think its possible???

I’m a junior and am trying to gage what will happen next year, I’ll probably get a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA with 6 APs and 4 Joint enrolled classes, and since taking Kaplan Sat course, think I can get at least a 2000 all together, should I get into Georgia Tech or UGA?

SAT - 1530 (Math: 780 CR:750) or 2260 with writing
GPA - 3.62
EC’s: tutoring, part time job, 2 years of wrestling, some volunteering

could i get into like NYU or Tufts?

Sometime within the next month or so I’d like to meet with an SAT tutor once or twice. How can I go about finding a good one? No one I know has ever used one. Thanks.
I already took the Princeton Review, it was offered free by my school. I don’t feel like it helped much. Also, I did already take the SAT once and got a really good score. I want to do even better when I take it again because my GPA isn’t great and I’m aiming for schools that are pretty tough to get into.

Which one should more focus be put on, SAT preparation, or GPA. I am currently going into my sophmore year.
I make an average of a grade of 95 or 96 in all my classes, and I take all of the hightest ones I can take. (the grades range from 100s in 4.0 classes to 92s in 5.0 classes) Is this good for a high school freshman, or should I work even harder? I have also been going through a Kaplan SAT book. What is the above average median range of grades for students? Please Help!! thankyou!!!

I want to take the SAT in the spring and want to get 3 or 4 books to study. I know for sure I’m getting the "Official SAT Study Guide" and I’m going to need the "Hot Words for the SAT" so I need opinions for which other book I should get. My GPA isn’t so strong so I need good SAT scores. Here’s my list:

-Official SAT Study Guide
-Hot Words for the SAT
-Cracking the SAT, by Princeton Review
-Barron’s SAT 2400:Aiming for the Perfect Score
-Barron’s Critical Reading Workbook for the SATs
-Cracking the SAT Math 1 & 2 Subject Tests

Anyone who’s taken the SAT, which book was most useful? and is it necessary to get SAT Subject Test books to study?

I am 18 and a high school senior who will be graduating in a few days. I took my SAT only once and scored 2230, with scores of over 700 on each section. Additionally, I got perfect scores on the math and writing sections of my PSAT. I have a 4.6 GPA and have been told that I would make a great teacher, though I have never done any formal tutoring aside from volunteering to tutor a kid in Spanish a couple times after school.
While discussing the SAT, a junior I know who wanted to raise her score above 2100 (currently at 2070) asked me if I would tutor her, and her parents would pay if I could guarantee she’d score over 2100 (which I feel pretty confident I could do).
How much should I charge per hour?
Thank you!!

I’m in 10th grade now, and I’m a pretty good student. I have a 3.74 GPA UW, and 4.16 W. But I’m not that great of a standardized test taker. I fell that I have potential and maybe a class would help. We took a standardized test to enter our H.S., and I scored a 89(out of 100), while some of my peers in the Honors program who I have higher or pretty much same grades as scored grades such as 99, 97, 96 and a few more like that. I word hard and I want to make sure my SAT/ACT scores don’t drag me down when I apply for college.
I’d also like to try and do well on the PSAT, trying to become a National Merit Finalist, some university’s give really nice schollys for that.

Thanks, I was just wondering if I should shell out 00 for a basic course on PSAT/SAT at PR or Kaplan.

Like I said, I have potential, but I’m going to have to work at it.

Ohh and I’m taking the "Plan" (pre-ACT) test this week. That should give me more feedback on what I need to study and maybe how badly I’d need this class.

Thanks

I usually am an 85-90 gpa student and when i take major tests i end up getting 70-75’s. I bombed my psat’s. Is there any help for me to concentrate better on tests or any advice out there??
Im worried about the SATs enormously!! plz help

What are the best ways to study for the SAT tests? Specifically, the best books, preparatory courses, practice tests, helpful studying website sources, etc, etc, etc…Do I need to take the PSAT? Please help, all you high SAT scorers!!! :)

By the way, I live in California and I hope to attend USC, UCLA, Stanford…? So if you have info on required GPA & SAT scores, that would be helpful…

I took the SAT last Saturday (March 1st) and Im thinking of take it again. . I own The Official SAT Study Guide by collegeboard but I want to buy another one. (I have a 2.9 GPA)

Which one is better for the SAT test prep?

*Kaplan SAT 2008 Premier Program
*Cracking the SAT, 2008 Edition by Princeton Review
*How to Prepare for the SAT: 2007-2008 (Barron’s)
*Barron’s SAT 2400

Other?

I’d eventually like to go back to grad school and get "on the road" to an academic career. I was wondering if ACT/SAT tutoring might be a good career move for me right now. I got a 30 on the ACT some years ago (the score report said that was the 99th percentile for that year, IIRC), and I currently have a B.A. I had a decent GPA in college. I have no previous tutoring or educational experience. Is this something I should pursue?

In Maryland. Not California. It’s been my dream school for as long as I can remember and now I’m going through the (I suppose normal) self doubt about my grades and how they might be inadequate.

What sort of SAT scores and GPA do you need to get into Loyola in Maryland?

Thanks!

I am planning to go to UC after two-yr college. Do I need to take SAT test too or just have good GPA in college?

i just took the official sat practice test and got a 2140, which is the highest i’ve ever gotten so far. (last time i took was about two months ago and i got a 2020)… so does that mean my score will only go up?? will it ever go down? i feel pretty confident, because my reading and writing scores have been really consistent and my math score just went up 100 to 760… what do you guys think? how reliable are these prep tests?
also are ivy league schools within my reach provided that i have good ec’s, good gpa, essay, recommendation and a higher sat score, since i’m only a rising junior..

I took the May SAT and I got a 2100. I received a 660 on critical reading, a 730 in math, and a 710 in writing skills. I looked up the SAT scores expected by Harvard officials, and I met the categories in math and writing skills, but i was 30 points shy from meeting the standards in critical reading. Can I still be accepted with my scores as long as I have a good GPA and plenty of extra curricular activities?

What is the best way to prep for SAT? And is it on the scale of 1600 or 2400? And does your SAT speak louder than your GPA? And if you improve your GPA in the last 2 years of high school will that improve your chances of getting into a good college? Also can you get a scholarship if you get a good score on your SAT?
