Why do most private schools now require laptops?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
I get the need to access information quickly, but other than that I don,t understand why a student would need their own machine if they attended a private day, or boarding school. I am a Freshman this incoming year, and am considering attending boarding school next year or the year after, as a Sophmoore, or Junior. All the school I am currently looking at require laptops.
Can someone fill me in on why they mainly require them? It seems as though (throughout what I have read, and heard,) that they mainly serve as a distraction in the classroom, with students IMing and searching the web/playing games when they should be focused and paying attention. Don’t get me wrong I love to do it too while at home, but it just doesn’t seem suitable for a place of learning. It also bothers me that test scores from students who have switched from public school to private school, their state and national scores have dropped significantly.
Laptops have their place and I can see the benefits of having one at school, when not improperly used.
Can anyone explain? (Feel free to share experiences if you would like.)
Is there an accelerated SAT and ACT Prep course?
I am a freshman in high-school (home-schooled) and i am also in college, i was just wondering if there was an accelerated SAT and ACT Prep course that would help me prepare for the Sat and ACT, and also get me up to date with college algebra, history, science, and english.
Here are a list of things i need in the class:
I need something that will only take 6-12months
I need to be able to track my progress
I am looking for a laptop for school…?
I’m trying to decide which brand laptop to buy. I am going to be a freshman in college this fall and I am planning to go into accounting. I am looking at getting a MacBook. Has anyonoe had any problems sharing information between a mac and pc? If my school’s main operating system is dell, would I have trouble using a mac? Also, what does everyone think of dells? How is the quality, performance, etc? Any other brands that you really like?

How much can I improve on my SATs?
Hello. I’m currently a freshman and I took the SATs for the first time and got a 1680.
Math: 700
Reading: 500
Writing: 480
I currently have private SAT tutors and use special SAT guide books. How much can I improve by the end of my sophomore year? Any tips? (Aiming for 2000+)
Do I still have time to study for the SAT II Biology?
Ok. I am a freshman and I’m taking Biology. I want to do it by myself (with no tutor or any extra help) because I don’t want to become dependent on anyone. I want to start studying early, but I am sort of a procrastinator. So, I think I’m going to start studying soon.
Do you still think I have enough time to study and get a 750+, considering I am a freshman?
What is a good book to read to increase your SAT reading and grammar section?
Hai, Iam non native American currently a freshman and plan to retake SAT I.
When I do an SAT questions, passages on critical reading sometimes makes me sweat and dizzy. What should I do about this?
Is there any good novel that can help somehow?
About the grammar, it does really trappy…it looks like correct sentence but I believe there’s something wrong with it…but I dont know which one I should choose! Oh boy…Is there any nice free website or somekind to boost my score?
Does apply for tutor help? In my city I cant find any SAT tutor and If i want to, I have to go to abroad and it cost quite expensive, would u guys recomend this?
Please any suggestions would be nice.

How can we motivate our 17 year about higher SAT scores for college?
Our 17 yr old just got his results from his SAT he scored a 1280, lower than his first score of 1385 back in March. We were not happy with the 1385 and sent him to the Princeton Review tutoring course for the June SAT test. Can’t believe he scored lower! When I told him his score, I got an’oh well’. Oh well?!? What the heck is that? He said he’s not taking the SAT again & will take the ACT in Oct. He just doesn’t get the reality of this. He wants to go away to college, yet doesn’t get it thru his head that a 1385 isn’t really good. His GPA is 3.02 (freshman thru junior years, he’ll be a senior in Sept.). As far as a resume from his 1st 3 years in high school, he played jv golf for 1 year, has worked as a counselor in the summer for the past 3 years, he’s not involved in any extra-curricula activities in school, but will be volunteering this summer.
What I’m looking for is feed-back or advice to give him. Even let me know if I’m expecting too much, 1st & only child. THANKS!

Information and Questions about Kaplan ACT PSAT SAT Platinum 2008 test prep software program?
I am getting ready to be a freshman in high school next year. I want something to do this summer to help keep my brain rolling during the summer, instead of just watching TV all the time. Is this stuff too difficult for a 9th grader? I have always gotten straight-A’s, and have always gone above and beyond what is expected. Please let me know if you have any type of review or feedback on this product. Or of any others similar.

Good sat act prep tests online?
im a freshman, and my english teacher said it might be benifical to find some sat/act prep tests online. I live in Michigan, if that helps. so, does anybody know any good sites/books to look at? thanks!

Best SAT study guide and/or website?
I’m a freshman but I want to start studying for my SAT because I REALLY want to get a high grade. What are the best SAT study guide books and websites. I need it especially for math. Thank you.
Does the SAT study guide work?
Because I’m becoming a freshman in high school soon, I’m focusing alot more on my studies. And as all teenagers should know, the SAT’s are an important part of college admissions.
That is why I recently bought the "Official SAT Study Guide" from CollegeBoard. I was wondering, did this study guide help anyone? Was it beneficial? The book is relatively thick so I just wanted to see if it really made anyone’s score increase. And how much did YOUR score increase, if any?
I would prefer it if I got informational responses, thanks

Is a 1640 score on the SAT good as a freshman?
I am a freshman in high school and my parents made me take the SAT without any preparation and I scored a 1640. I have no idea what this means, and I have no else in my grade to base my score on.
What is a good way to study SAT vocab.?
I am a freshman in high school and I want an early head start for SAT’s. I don’t have an SAT tutor or any SAT books, but I do have a the Word Smart book. Though I am not too sure how I should study all the words.

I am a freshman at the College of William and Mary and am trying to get a tutoring job in korea for the summer. It would be best to work between May and August. I am a native born korean american and have previous experience with tutoring SAT’s. Is there a site that may be helpful to me?

SAT preparation programs in the bay area?
I’m a freshman at a private highschool in california and i was wondering if there are any really good SAT preparation programs near Foster City CA or anywhere around there
Do I still to take the SAT test for Stanford even if I’m if I’m a transfer student from a community college ?
I’m planning to apply to Stanford for Fall 2010 and I need more INFO on how I can get in. Is it true that I need the SAT test results even though I’m not a freshman?
