I am going to be a senior this year in high school. I currently have a Toshiba laptop and it’s about three years old…still runs real nice for a well-worn computer, but it’s too behind the times for me. Basically, I want to get an updated, not TOO expensive computer (roughly around 0-650 is what I want to spend) that will play specifically The Sims 3. I’d also want it for normal stuff like holding word documents and photos and whatnot, but mainly I just like to use the internet at play the Sims. I am going to go to Best Buy…and I want to know, should I get a desktop, or a laptop? And what specific things should I look for?

Here are the specs on the laptop im considering it is Gateway Model: MD 7309u

I am looking for a laptop mostly used for school and email, editing pictures and I also will be downloading music on it (which i know puts me at risk for some viruses). So I’d buy the norton anti-virus for the next years(is this sufficient enough for my protection). I plan on having it for 4-5 years at least!, I plan on getting the best buy Black-tie warranty for another 0. It is on sale for 9 at best buy. Please tell me any suggestions or pointers you have! or other reccomendations. I’ve never thought as gateway as being a good brand, so i am really unsure, but i also don’t know a whole lot about computers. Is the 4gb of ram worth the extra money? or is 3gb plenty of room for me, and my computer still not be slow after a few years?
Thank you =]
Yeah, im not a gamer at all, unless the occasional pogo counts!
I just bought a used laptop from Best Buy for school, but all of the past owner’s info was still on it. So i reformat the computer, only to find out a lot of things dont work. The speakers built into my laptop dont play sound anymore, even when i troubleshoot it to death. and i cant connect to the internet anymore wirelessly through a network. I downloaded and used versionracker pro to update all my drivers and they still dont work. What do i do now?
The one that I was looking at costs about 1000, but i only have around 500. The people at Best Buy told me the card currently had a deal of 24 months no interest. My birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks. I need a computer for school, but would rather not give up all my money at once.
