I would finish the Gruber’s book prior to taking the actual test SAT because you will need that extra practice. I completed the Grubers book before taking the test. On the PSAT that OCtober I recieved a score of a 16?, which is much lower than yours. I took the real test in January and got a 1970 with the grubers book, but later I practice more and took it in June and ended up with a 2020.
It can’t hurt. Why not? It might make you feel more confident when taking the test, too.
I wouldn’t waste the money and time to take the test until you have taken the prep course. However, understand that you probably will want to take the test more than once. Most do so that they can improve their score. I took the ACT and took it twice. I still didn’t have a very high score but I had run out of time (and probably money) to take it again.
