Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
Has anyone taken the SAT/ACT prep courses at Sylvan Learning Center? or do you know anyone that has? I’m considering taking it over the summer, but I want to know if it’s worth my money. So, if anyone could enlighten me on how much they benefitted from the course, that would be much appreciated. Also, if you could name some other places/private tutors for test prep go right ahead! Tell me what you guys recommend! and any tips for SAT prepping and testing are also welcomed! lol.
Thank You!
I can’t say if the Sylvan prep course is good or not.
But, I did take the Kaplan SAT prep classes and it wasn’t worth my money. I did worse! So, my opinion is to stay clear of the Kaplan SAT prep.
I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.
I know two boys that took the Kaplan Prep Course and they both felt that it did not help them as they had hoped. You can do it on your own by purchasing the sample tests and being diligent about taking and retaking the tests and evaluating your errors. If money is not an issue, I would recommend asking around your community for some good tutors who can give you one on one instruction.
In my opinion, anytime you take classes that require you to pay for tutoring, you had better be prepared to come to the session with questions and specific problem areas. THEN this would be a good choice for you. IF you are self motivated and are conscientious about your studies, I would recommend the study guides that come with several practice exams. They have never done me wrong and I’ve used them for the SAT, the EXcETs, and my GRE. Good luck.
