Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!

I just took my SAT’s in June and scored a 1580. The testing conditions were horrid, 95 degrees with 90% humidity on the third floor, UGH! I know I’m capable of at least an 1800. My math scores are my real weakness though. I need to find a good tutoring program or even a private tutor. Where is a good place to look or advertise?

There are several places. First, it depends on where you live. Some areas have a higher demand for tutors than the others. I wouldn’t suggest going to a tutoring center because they charge you a ridiculous amount of prices but only pay your tutor less than half of what you pay the center. But if you can’t find a tutor by yourself, this would be your last resort.

I would first go to the library and ask if they know of any tutors who are available for the SAT. Guidance counselors and your teachers probably have a list of tutors available in your area. Sometimes you can find quality tutor on craigslist under services-lesson and tutoring. Or you can post on a popular website called wyzant.com or search for a tutor in your area.

I wouldn’t really suggest online tutoring because I think you get the most having someone next to you assessing your weaknesses and strengths and pinpoint what you are doing right/wrong.

I wish you the best of luck finding a tutor!

I heard that http://www.tutor.com is a good, safe, website for an online tutor 24/7. But, you have to pay for it.

    http://www.studybeans.com

    100X better than http://www.tutor.com

And studybeans is FREE, tutor.com you have to pay, and it does not work all that well.

Second, you can join some prep classes in your area which get you familiar with some of the SAT type questions, and they give you some tips and tricks on how to score high on the SAT. They make you take alot of practice tests, etc to prepare you.

And you third option is, get a SAT prep book. I reccommend the Collegeboard official SAT prep book, or the Kaplan prep book for the SAT. Both of these books have great SAT tips and alot of practice tests and problems. I like the SAT prep book by collegeboard because once you finish a practice test you can go online and put in your answers to recieve your actual SAT score.

Good luck on your next SAT, and hope this helped.

I agree with ProfTutor – you really need to weigh your options and see what kind of tutoring will work for you. Just be careful and research the background of the tutor. If you’re looking to score in the 1800s and you’re in the 1600ish range, you really want some strategy along with fundamentals to increase your score. For that I’d choose someone with more of a test prep background.

Another free website to check out is http://www.MyStudentEdge.com. This not only gives you full length test prep classes (online) but the course molds itself to your individual strengths and weakness like a tutor would. Just register as a new user (you’ll need the access code: XULGFRAD).

    Good luck!
