Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
I am currently a junior right now and I am taking the SAT for the first time this saturday. The problem is I have never taken any prep-course for it. A few months ago I took the PSAT and i scored 122/240 which is super horrible. I heard that SAT is so much harder and with 5 days left i do not know what to do. Can anybody tell me what i should do to prepare and get a good score on the SAT?. plus, what is in the SAT?
thank you very much
SAT is a standardized test to determine your reasoning and logical skills. Many colleges use this to gauge your overall academic success. This score is vital to your future because it determines what colleges will accept you. While it is true colleges look at a wealth of other things about you, such as GPA, Class Rank, Extracurriculars, Volunteer work, Personal essays, and letters of recommendation, many colleges will not accept you if you have a very poor SAT score.
I’ll be honest with you and say that you are asking about this just a little bit too late. Studying for the SAT takes longer preparation than just a week. It would be very difficult to give you a crash course lesson on what the SAT covers. Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT to get a basic idea of what the SAT is and what is covers.
The Good thing about the SAT is that you can take it again your senior year in the fall. So, because of this, I would recommend buying this book: http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-2008-College-Test-Prep/dp/0375766065/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209312637&sr=8-1 and study for the SAT over the summer in preparation. The maker of that study book, The Princeton Review, is a very established company and is top-notch for test preparation. I have used them at least half a dozen times and I can vouch for how helpful their tips have been. It has helped raise my scores significantly.
Now, there is also an alternative to the SAT. Some people simply do not do well on the SAT – even if they get good grades in school. That is why many choose to take the alternative test, The ACT, instead. You can take the ACT next fall as well. The ACT covers material that is more likely to be found in your classroom, whereas the SAT covers material that is more about reasoning and logical skills.
To determine what test would benefit you most, I would talk to your counselor and have them help you with that decision. They will be able to help you more.
Good luck!
Michael does a real good job on explaining the SATs but because you have only five days you need help real fast.
Go to http://www.number2.com, this site gives you the types of questions that will be in SAT and give helpful tips in attacking certain questions. If you study at it for least 3 hours a day you’ll know what to expect for the SAT.
However I would not say its as good as a preparation book. If you do bad, buy the SAT book recomended and study in the summer and take it in fall. Theres still time.
try college board’s website
http://www.collegeboard.com
and they have practice questions
