Don’t worry about being nervous about it, everyone is when it comes to SATs. Besides, is it not better to be nervous now, in the class, as opposed to taking the actual test? Besides, each person in the class works at a different speed, has different strengths and different goals. Everyone is there to improve, if all of them are supersmart as you appear to believe, they wouldn’t be taking the class. Don’t worrry about it!
Prep classes are generally broken down like this…
1.) Brief intro to the SAT: Whats on it? How long is it? Types of questions? What’s needed for successs?
2.) Practice tests: timed practices of the SAT test
3.) Analyzing results: from your results, you’re strengths will be analyzed as well as what you should improve on. For example, the instructors might say: "You’ve done excellent in the math section, but it seems like you were a bit short of time on the reading comprehension section. My suggestion is…"
This part may make you nervous but remember: THEY ARE TRYING TO HELP YOU IMPROVE. They’re not scrutizing you’re intelligence or criticizing you.
4.) Going over practice questions. Walkthrough of a test with the class. Answer questions using fast and reliable methods. This methods should help you complete the test on time in the future.
5.) Last minute tips and advice on the SAT. Ex. come prepared and after eating a good breakfast, take advantage of a calculator etc.
This is how it will most likely be broken down if you are only there for three days. I hope this helps.
I wish you the best of luck both in the class and on the actual test!
What company are you going with?
If they’re any good, they will be focusing on test-taking skills rather than academic content. For example - they should NOT be teaching you how to solve difficult Algebra problems the "long way" - they should be teaching you techniques to get the right answers QUICKLY. Remember, the SAT has a tough time limit!
Don’t stress about this course. You’re paying for it, right? The company should be bending over backwards to make you happy and comfortable. Just pay attention and learn as much as you can while you’re there. If they give homework, do that too, and don’t forget to USE and practice the techniques you’re learning.
Good luck!
