Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!

Mail Order CD Company charges a shipping fee of .00 for the first CD, .50 for the second CD, and .00 for each additional CD. For example, the shipping cost for 3 CD’s is .00+.50+.00 a total of .50. If Sharon orders 20 CD’s, how much money would she save if they shipped 4 packages of 5 CD’, instead of 5 packages of 4 CD’s?

Lets look at the two scenarios independentally.

How much would it cost to ship 5 CDs?
    $2.00 for the first
    $1.50 for the second
    $1.00 for the third
    $1.00 for the fourth
    $1.00 for the fifth
    For a total of $6.50

How much would 4 packages of 5CDs cost?
    4 * 6.50 = $26.00

Now how much would 4 CDs cost?
    $2.00 for the first
    $1.50 for the second
    $1.00 for the third
    $1.00 for the fourth
    For a total of $5.50

How much would 5 packages of 4CDs cost?
    5 * 5.50 = $27.50

The difference between the two methods is $1.50 (27.50 – 26.00)

    You are kidding, right?
    5x (2+1.5+1+1) = uh
    4x(2+1.5+1+1+1) = oooooh

  • ireadlots says:

    Each package of 5 CDs will cost $2 + $1.50 + 3 * $1 = $6.50 => Total = 4 * $6.50 = $26
    Each package of 4 CDs will cost $2 + $1.50 + 2 * $1 = $5.50 = > Total = 5 * 5.50 = $27.50
    Sharon would save $1.50

  • Scott V says:

    Shipping method 1: (2 + 1.5 + 1 + 1) * 5 = $27.50

    Shipping method 2: (2 + 1.5 + 1 + 1 + 1) * 4 = $26.00

$1.50 saved using shipping method 2.
