Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
I’m a sophmore and took PSAT this year. I was soo disappointed by my score:137.
36 on critical reading
51 in math
50 in writing
I have 4.0 GPA right now
but I came to America when i was in 5th grade so my english skills need more work.
but when i took time and redid the same test, i got over twice as much right.
My goal is to get at least 1800 on SAT…. I’m going to get help from SAT tutoring center…
Do you think its possible???
Yes you can. I came to America in 7th grade and when I took the PSAT, due to the fact that I hadn’t prepared and was extremely nervous I did horribly. But, I knew that those scores were not representative of my ability so I studied day and night for school and the SATs. Eventually I got a 2150 and now go to an Ivy-League University. Get all the help you can get, it doesn’t mean you need it but it will help. Take SAT courses that are serious! Trust me, if you work hard enough you can get a perfect score, what matters is how badly you want it. You really have to realize that there is NO REASON why you should get a question wrong, unless it’s your fault–lack of studying or carelessness. Pursue your goals relentlessly and you will succeed.
Definitely! Go for it! If you realize what your mistakes are and you target them and fix them you can improve a lot. A lot of practice and familiarity with the questions can also help. If you have a tutor, as mentioned, you can get additional support from someone else who has seen possibly hundreds of SAT students! I was dissapointed at my critical reading score the first time I took the SAT for it was a 600. I employed all of the methods I mentioned, got a tutor, and my critical reading score went up to 770.
Read every night for at least an hour and read for several hours on Saturday and again on Sunday.
Pick funny novels or whatever you enjoy.
My kid got 800 on SAT in critical reading from reading fantasy novels since oh, I guess 6th grade. She reads constantly.
that’s why I say you can read enjoyable novels and still make large gains in your vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Make this a lifetime habit. You will need these skills to do well in college and in a job, as well as doing well on the SAT.
Yes, it is possible. Study out of PSAT prep books when the test rolls around next year. It will also help if you read a lot in the interim.
I took the PSAT three times. The first time, I did horribly on the math. When I took the test again the following year, that score had gone up 16 points. I’d had an amazing teacher for math that year, so that helped also.
Sometimes, that extra year is all it takes. Just keep at it….you’ll get there.
