Please Help! SAT Preparation?
I’m planning on taking the SAT for the second time. The first time didn’t go so hot; I only scored a 1340, which is absolutely terrible.. but at that time, I didn’t take it seriously either. I really want to score much higher this time, for it will probably be my last go.
I want to know… how did you prepare for your SAT? Ideally, I’d love to get over a 2000 but that is so unrealistic. I’ll settle for a 1600… or heck; a 1500. Do you know of any useful sites, hints, tips, tricks to do well on the SAT? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Wow, now I feel old. Back in my days …. lol, just wanted to say that. But seriously, I took the SAT the year before they changed it. So when I took it 1600 was the maximum score. And I know someone who scored 1600/1600. I’m going to tell you what she did. I know that the SAT is somewhat different now, but all standardized tests are basically the same.
How did you prepare the first time? What worked for you, and what didn’t? Did you feel like you had enough time to prepare? My friend with the perfect score took 2 months during the summer, when she focused on just the SAT. She started off with 2 of the most recommended SAT books (at the time it was Barron’s and Princeton Review).
She didn’t take a review course. She just sat down every day, and worked through those books. She made a schedule for the hours she would study everyday and stuck to it. But make sure to take breaks too. Otherwise your brain just goes into overload and crashes.
Every Sunday morning, she would take a full length timed practice test. Then Sunday night, she would go over all her wrong answers and read the explanations given for the right answer. This way she learned from her mistakes.
A few weeks before the test, she bought the book 10 Real SATs by the same company that actually makes the SAT. By doing these tests she got a good idea of what kind of questions would be on the real exam.
Good Luck.
