I want to buy a laptop for school but there are so many different types of laptops to choose from. I want something for basic use, nothing too fancy or too expensive.. any suggestions??

You should get the MacBook. It’s very reliable, has a solid anti-virus program and is much more user friendly than Windows. Besides you can check out the website (www.apple.com) because they usually have offers for students, like a couple of weeks ago they would give you a free iPod nano if you bought a MacBook.
Hope this helps,
Good luck
Well the more expencive the laptop is the more memory it has and lets you install more programs. Also more useful programs. Try buying a Dell. I bought one for $1300 and is very good better than my $600 one. It also runs faster.
I would recommend a mac, they are a bit more expensive but they are more reliable and easier to use and learn the systems if you are not familiar. Check out apples web site, because you get a student discount and every fall they do a promotion where, with student laptops you get a free i pod. I don’t know when it ends so check it out soon.
I bought a basic Toshiba laptop and it has been working for almost 3 years now. From working in the computer field, I would recommend a Dell or Toshiba and if you are not going to be using big graphic tools or playing graphic intensive games, then you really don’t need a top of the line system. Hope this helps.

Definetly get an HP! They are so great!
HP= Hewlett Packard
For your tasks (and 99.9% of notebook users) a $500 Sunday special from BestBuy or CircuitCity will do just fine.
The biggest difference between a $500 notebook and a $1,000 notebook is a slightly faster processor, which isn’t going to be noticeable unless you edit raw DV (digital Video) from a camcorder or encode DVD’s, and even then I don’t think it’s worth double the price (you might wait 10% longer for an encode to be finished compared to the $1,000 notebook).
This is the best deal in the ads this week:

Add 2gb of RAM from newegg.com for $65:

And you have a dual-core processor notebook with 2gb of RAM, large hard drive, DVD/CD burner, wireless, all the bells and whistels for about $500. You’re getting 95% of the performance of a $1,000 Core 2 chipped notebook for 50% of the price.

"like a couple of weeks ago they would give you a free iPod nano if you bought a MacBook. "
