is this a good SAT score?
i just took a practice SAT online and i got a 1990. this is with no preparation (i literally just sat down and took the test) with distractions. is this good? i’m going to be a junior.
i’m taking the PSAT in october, and if i continue practicing every weekend or an hour a day or something starting on september 1, do you think i will be prepared for it? depending on how i do on the PSAT, i’m considering taking a SAT prep class, but im not sure if they’re worth it.
thanks so much in advance!

1990 is very impressive for your first time. I’m a rising junior as well, and only scored about 1860 my first time.
Seeing as you’re probably going to be starting school in September, that month might be a bit busy for you (depending on your AP/IB classes, sports, etc.) But definitely, I say to go for it. Study for the PSAT on your own, and maybe you’ll be able to get National Merit Recognition (usually around 205-214 depending on your state).
If you are aiming for a really competitive score on your actual SAT, say around 2250-2400, you might want to consider taking SAT classes. Most people hit the "wall" at 2100 when they study on their own, meaning that they can’t improve any more. A private tutor or small group SAT sessions can get you over the 2250 mark, if you work hard at it.
So really, it all depends on your goals and your work ethic.
Good luck!
I’m gonna take it in lk 2 days and I’m gonna be a Sopho, i haven’t studied at all and this test isn’t gonna count but if i want a 2000 at least is that too much to ask for?
For just sitting down and taking it, that score is quite good. However, you definitely could improve that score if you put in the time. I would personally recommend against an SAT prep class; just get a test prep book and work through it, and you’ll be better off and have saved money, too. Good luck!
