Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
I’m currently receiving SAT tutoring sessions. Could this also help me with my AP exams that i have to take next year? Are the formats similar? If anyone can give me more information on the AP exam it would be helpful
also, what are SAT subject tests like? are they similar to the SAT?
all 3 are different. ap exams are long like the SAT. subject tests are only one hour long.
SAT is mostly a test of general knowledge and test taking skills. It is unlikely that you will be helped on your AP tests other than by the fact that you will learn good test taking skills.
The format of the AP and SAT test are pretty similar, depending on the ones you take (other than foreign language).
AP exams are graded differently than the SAT. They are ALL graded and then compared to each other, and the top 1/5 get 5s and the lowest 1/5 get 1s. So you are competing against your peers and not a test.
SAT Subject tests are similar to the SAT (I’ve taken Math Level I) but require more specific knowledge on their topic. The format is similar, except that you get a book and get to pick which tests you want. All in all, the tests aren’t that different.
On the SAT, you only have to write one essay. On the AP tests, you may have to write 3-4 or more depending on the tests. Both the SAT and AP exams have multiple choice from A to E. The AP tests, at least some of them, are hard. But, they are manageable if you have a good grasp of the material covered throughout the course. The thing about the AP tests is that if they gave you essay topics that you do not know about you are screwed. So, make sure you know at least most of the material and the material that you don’t know, pray that it is not on the test. Unlike the AP exams which require specific knowledge, facts, etc., the SAT essay does not require very specific knowledge, facts, etc.
The tutoring sessions may only help you get better test taking skills for the AP exams. The AP exam is all about what you know about the material in the course, so the sessions will only help a little bit.
SAT Subjects Tests also requires specific knowledge (to answer multiple choice; no essays) like the AP test, but it is much easier and the AP tests b/c you only need to know enough to answer multiple choice questions.
