Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
i’ve only taken the psat
and my scores are the following
reading- 53
math-65
writing- 46
goal= stanford
Hi Chelsey,
To answer your question, Kaplan SAT tutoring may not be helpful IF you are one of those people who can learn by themselves. There is no "magic" to Kaplan SAT tutoring. You basically pay couple thousand dollars to learn what you read in the books except they force you to do so (no doodling).
Your current scores are not great, but that also means that you can improve drastically. Reading is tough to improve so you will have to work very hard if you want to apply and get into Standford. For Math, it is easier to improve if you meet a good tutor to help you. There is a chance that you will meet one in Kaplan; there is also a chance that you will not meet one there. The sad part? You find that after paying couple thousand dollars.
I’m personally trying to work as a tutor this summer, especially in math. I scored high 700′s on SAT 1 and 800 on SAT 2 Math. For Writing, the highest score I had was low 700′s. My verbal was in mid-600′s, but I started off in really low score. I’m planning to work online with much cheaper price than Kaplan, so if you are interested, send me an email. I may not be the highest SAT scorer you meet, but I know more than most instructors. I bought basically every SAT book out there (if I didn’t, it’s because they were BAD), and I know the insider’s tips that you don’t learn in the prep company.
Good luck!
Hey Chelsea,
So I am a private tutor and I can tell you that WannaB is right. Kaplan gives everyone the same broad techniques whether or not they work for you. If you are going to spend money, invest in one-on-one.
For Stanford, you are going to need to get over 700 in at least two of the three.
Good luck,
K
Get the Kaplan Spotlight guides for SAT/ACT. Read "A is for Admissions." You need to realize how competitive the college admissions process is, especially at schools like Stanford.
