If you are taking the new version of the SAT’s there will be a critical reading section, math, and writing. As for the amount of questions, i am not sure, there are several sections of 45 questions or less, approximately. The test lasts (breaks included) from 8 till 12:00-12:30…depending on the proctor.

YES the colleges and universities look at these scores, depending where you are in the country, the ACT’s may be preferred, but for the majority of the schools, this is the best way to rank kids. While its not a perfect system, with such a massive amount of candidates, its the best way they have found to compare kids at a glance, regardless of being a good test taker or not.

Other things to look for is class rank- schools often as for things such as "top ten percent"
    GPA
    volunteer work
    extra activities
    job shadowing

SAT’s are one MAJOR determining factor when it comes to special programs at schools, such as pre-med early acceptance many schools have minimums and wont regard candidates that dont make the cutoff

    Critical Reading, Math, and Writing.
There are about 70 critical reading questions, 55 math questions, 50 writing questions and a writing essay.
Colleges definitely look at the score, and use it along with factors like GPA and teacher recommendations to consider students.

The SAT has changed over time. The best way to know what’s going on today is to go to the local library and check out the books that the SAT maker itself, the College Board puts out. The College Board may (note the word may) for a nominal fee, allow you to purchase previous tests from other years.
Yes, college admn. boards look at the scores. But it comes together with your GPA, extra cirriculars, letter of rec, personal statement, and essay. That you have a 5 star SAT score will not save a low GPA; alternatively, a 5 star SAT score will look better than a hole in the ground SAT score (I, for one, was one of those), but it is crucial to pick teachers who can write letters of rec that present you in a good light (which is how I got into the schools I wanted).
