That is a pretty respectable laptop that should function for most stuff. Only thing I’d change really that will help is change the SATA hard drive to something that spins at around 7200RPM. That will help out and improve your experience. Without knowing the types of game you play the Vid card should be able to handle most. But I’d look at the games you like and just compare the specs for video against what your getting.

i agree with omar e. a very respectable laptop. nice choice. but like he said – if ur goin to use it for gaming, youll wand a hard drive that spins faster than that. other than that – nice choice, enjoy.

On laptop computers, as with desktops, it’s the graphics processor (GPU) which for the most part determines gaming performance. If you’re serious about running games on a laptop, then you want to make sure you get a GPU which is powerful enough to run your games.

This is a list of benchmark results, which shows the relative performance of common mobile GPUs,

I assume the laptop you’re considering is one of the HP dv*t models (like a dv5t). On one of those, a good gaming configuration would be to go a couple notches higher on the CPU, to at least the P8400 (2.26 GHz), and get the 9600M GT GPU. (I understand the 9600M GT is probably a $200 option, but if you want a laptop which will actually run recent games, that’s the decision you need to make.)

I’m also not a fan of the 1280 x 800 resolution. Those are cheap panels, I think it’s not enough pixels (800) vertically. I think 1680 x 1050 is more practical (and probably a better LCD).

(On the other hand, if you stick with the 9200M GPU, you should stay with the lower resolution too, so games won’t bog down on the higher resolution.)
