How hard is it to score a perfect score on the SAT?
Well, I am an entering sophomore (high school) for the 09-10 school year. School starts Monday, and I am more prepared than ever. Sophomores generally take the PSAT test, and I was wondering what is it all about? How hard is it (generally speaking)? Should I take a SAT prep course? WHat are some tips on the PSAT/SAT?

It is very hard to do extremely well, easy for a smart student to do average, around 1500/2400. At the Ivy colleges they received 3000+ perfect SAT scores (800) for each section of the SAT, but I don’t know the number of perfect total 2400 SAT scores. At my son’s private school, most of the kids score 1950 - 2200, with a few 2400, but it’s a really rigorous academic school. You want to try to score 2100 for Ivy league.
Yes, you need to take an SAT prep course, or at the very least read a test prep book. You want to do this before the PSAT, so you will score high, and maybe be National Merit recognized. You’d have to score very high (about 50% of seniors at my son’s school are National Merit recognized, this is from their sophomore PSAT scores) but it has it’s advantages for college admissions. http://www.nationalmerit.org/
