How good is the SAT Kaplan course?

I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.

I took the GRE Kaplan course and I don’t think it was worth $1,000. I was already very good at the math and even scored a perfect score on one of the practice tests so there wasn’t a lot to improve on in that material. Taking the class did raise my verbal score about 150 points but everything was straight out of the book and I wonder if I could have learned it myself.
Ask yourself:
1) How good are you already?
2) Can you honestly teach yourself from reading the book instead?
If you said yes to #2 then I recommend getting some prep books from the library and going over them yourself. If you need to talk to someone to learn and constantly ask questions, the class will be of use to you. Everything is straight out of the books though.
