Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!
I got a 680- Critical Reading, 660- Math, and 580- Writing, during October- Junior Year with no preparation at all. The most difficult school I’d want to attend is Penn. What should I do to improve my scores to Penn’s range?
hi
Firstly let me say don’t stress out too much — you’re a freshman and the SAT questions are SUPPOSED to be very tricky. (Not hard, TRICKY.)
Start with a tutor experienced in test prep now. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing — it can even be only once a month, but better to start sooner rather than later. This is especially true if you’re generally a good student. Good students know their school work and so it confuses the heck out of them when they can’t get SAT work.
Most of the generic help stuff you’ll find online is for seniors who are cramming and need easy, quick fixes to get an extra few points on their scores. An experienced tutor who can work one-on-one with you over a sustained period of time is going to be able to help you so much more.
Last year I had a very bright freshman (Grade 9) who did SAT prep with me maybe only a couple of times a month, and even then, sometimes we’d go a month without lessons. She hadn’t learned in school all the math she needed to know, so I was able to pick and choose good questions for her that matched up with what she was being taught in school and so didn’t freak her out.
I could tell by looking at the the questions which ones were appropriate content for her grade level and which ones weren’t. (But, she wouldn’t have been able to tell on her own.) So, she didn’t get freaked out thinking "the SAT is too hard for me" because she didn’t get questions she couldn’t be expected to know how to do yet.
Instead what happened is she could see how her regular school questions could be made tricker and turned into SAT questions. This then helped her prepare for her regular school classwork because she had been preparing for "trickier" questions than she was being asked to do at school.
The BEST thing you can do is start with a tutor now who can gently introduce you to SAT material at a pace that’s appropriate for you so that in 2 or 3 years, it’ll be a piece of cake!!
Good luck
I would suggest taking a lot of practice tests. I’ve seen people take courses but I believe those are more for people who can’t study on their own. Just make sure you’ve taken enough practice tests and you can improve your scores, which aren’t that bad already.
practice.practice.practice.
practice makes perfect.
Well frankly I think you should take a look at their goal message(Penn’s) then gather all of the info you possibly can and just go online and quiz yourself to see if you have enough knowledge to answer difficult questions.
what it comes down to is confidence. the first time i took the sats, i didnt feel confident. my second time, i pumped myself up, became confident, and scored 150 better on the 1600 scale, 180 better on the 2400 scale.
to study would be your best bet
…well…you can contact a government agency to hack and give you the answers…..or study.
