Can I deduct the cost of the laptop I bought for school use?

The only way a laptop, or any other computer, would be eligible to be counted for education credits would be if you were REQUIRED to buy it FROM THE SCHOOL as a condition of enrolling or attending. Since this is not usually the case, the answer is probably no.
