Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his SAT.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great SAT guide that helped me a lot . So study hard and good luck!

I took the April 14th ACT and scored a 32, a grade good enough to land me in my target schools (upenn, northwestern, washington university in St. Louis). Although I’ve had a tutor for the past few months for the SATs, I’m not sure I can score better than the equivalent of a 32 and taking the SAT + SAT IIs might be superfluous and a general waste of time. At the same time, however, I’m from NYC where literally everyone takes the SATs and it might appear like I’m cutting corners. My college counselor suggested it be a "family decision," leaving me to figure out my own fate.
Should I take and submit the SATs or simply settle with my ACTs?
.

Yes you should. Most colleges do not accept the ACT. I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.

Take the SAT; most schools will ask for the SAT first before they look at ACT scores. I was told that colleges had their own preference; if you sent ACT scores to an SAT school they would frown upon it and vice versa. Look into the schools you want to attend; I’m certain at least one, if not all of the schools are SAT schools.

If you did that well on the ACTs, I’m sure you’ll be fine on the SATs. Its been awhile, but I remember one of my high school friends who took both told me that the ACT was harder. So yeah, that may be a comfort to you :-P .

Well if you did that good on the ACTS why not go for the SAT? It would look good on the transcript. But if you think you’ll be fine, then your ACTS score is good enough.

It really depends on what schools you want to go to. In general schools in the central part of the country favor the ACT, while the coasts like the SAT. However, you shouldn’t be afraid of taking the SAT with the score you got on the ACT if you need to. Just the requirements of the schools you want to attend.

I happen to be in a similar situation. I am from New York and I am a terrible test-taker. I don’t perform very well on the SATs although I am a good student. My college adviser suggested the ACT, and at the time I had never heard of this particular test. But, yielding her advice, I began taking a few tests and discovered that my ACT scores were far superior to my SAT scores. I was scoring an average of 32 on the ACT’s. With the ACTs you are also given the option to send the scores in. With the SAT the scores are sent to colleges regardless of how you feel about your score. I personally felt that the ACT did a better job of showcasing my scholastic abilities and I opted to just go along with the ACT. When it comes down to it though, your college counselor is right in saying that it is ultimately a family decision. Congratulations on your amazing ACT score and I hope that your college process goes well.
