SAT Questions

Well, my idea was to start tutoring at Huntington Learning Center the rest of the summer, but will that help me as much as I need it!? I need to raise my Sat math scores at least 100 points, and my reading 50-70 points. On my ACT I got a 22, but I need at least a 24 to get into the college I want… Is 3 months an adequete time to raise my score that much!? Will huntington be effective at that? I’ve tried books but I cant concentrate and learn without someone there to help me, but tutoring is really expensive. Any other alternatives? Advice would be great, thanks

I currently have a desktop pc running xp and a laptop which was upgraded to windows vista ultimate.

I no longer use the laptop and want to test windows 7 out on it to see if I like it. If I do this will that free up the activation key I used on my laptop and let me use it to upgrade my desktop to vista ultimate?

as well as ‘Hot Words for the SAT’

are there any other books i need to get?
such as those that focus entirely on critical reading or math?
if so what ones would you recommend?

Okay so I asked about Kaplan SAT Prep and everyone said no way!! ha but what about Princeton Review SAT Prep? I would go every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for a month and take a mock SAT test 4 times. I would go for 3 hours each time except for the days I take the mock test. Its 0 and my parents are willing to pay but is it worth it? Thank you everyone for your input )

im deciding between testmasters and princeton review on which class to take and please do not tell me to just read the books because im going to take the classes + review the books. my goal is to get atleast a 1950 and i got a 1600 on PSAT about a year ago without studying or ne thing. which class is better to take? only people who have taken the class give me opinions please. which course is better to take and why?! tY!

i offer library use tutoring…one on one tutoring with homework, sat, and adult literacy to. i have yet to get a client. what should i do?

Is there any way to be prepared for this? Should I think about getting a prep manual for the exam? Are those out there? Is it tough? I’m imagining something like the SAT, especially since there are additional sections because of the field I’m going for. My math is a little rusty, I was thinking about practicing math questions in my GRE prep book.

I just graduated college and am driving 5 hours to take it b/c it is the only exam location that has openings in September. Otherwise I’m stuck waiting until November and I really want to start working sooner than that. So basically I REALLY don’t want to mess this up. Any advice?

I’m taking the SAT I in May. My brother gave me a hand-me-down CollegeBoard study book copyrighted in 2006 . Would you recommend getting an up-to-date book, or will the information be adequate enough to prepare me?

I need help on deciding where to go for SAT prep classes. I am currently a junior in High School and when I took the SAT in December I scored a 1570 on it. After seeing this I realized that I couldn’t study alone and that I need help.

My original plan was to attend Elite’s summer boot camp which is ,200 (which is overpriced IMO). Friends tell me that all they do there is give you a crap load of work and test and expect you to do good on the SAT after that. My friend has the same GPA as me and got the same exact score on the SAT and after taking this course he achieved over 2000.

On the other hand I’ve heard things about Revolution Prep. They are much cheaper and they don’t give you a lot of stuff to do, but rather techniques and strategies to beat the SAT. I’ve only heard from one person that he was able to get 1900 after taking a 6 week course.

I need your suggestions on which of these I should go to, or any other test prep classes for the summer. Please don’t give me links to goggle searching "SAT Prep Classes" I can do that myself. Also please do not say "SAT Prep Courses are a waste of money, don’t do them" because your not contributing to my question.

I need a laptop for school (10th grade). Mainly only for typing up papers, facebook, and surfin the web. I don’t really have to store documents on it soo the memory shouldn’t be a big issue. I have some pictures but i could store them on a flash drive. I put an add on craigslist for a used laptop because i have to buy my own with my christmas money (5) and someone responded with this offer, which was the only one within my budget. Do you think its a good deal and what questions should I ask the seller?

I have a Toshiba laptop you may be interested in. It is a P III at 850 mhz , 512 ram running XP-Home. I think the Hard Drive is 20 gig ? Not sure of that. I have the owners manual on the desktop. It is in good condition except the battery is shot. I have the AC adapter and it runs fine as long you plug it in. I also have a Wi-Fi card which works good at Borders etc.

We are a non-smoking home and it is in shiny condition , looks and runs good. I am not a computer whiz and bought this before I bought my better laptop as a temp substitute.

I have a non-matching mouse to go with it but it does have the little touch point to control the mouse. I may have a case for it. It also has a DVD rom drive and works to watch movies ( the main reason I bought it ).
Price is 0 firm , let me know.

Having problems booting my laptop, as soon as Windows logo screen finishes loading, I get a blue screen and instantly restarts…ran diagnostics, and it failed a dst short test…anyway, that’s a long story, but my CURRENT problem is that for some reason, I can’t seem to access the Recovery Console via CD, nor even boot with CD. It acts the same as if I had chosen to boot from HDD…I hit F12 and choose to boot from CD, but it still goes to "We apologize for the inconvenience…", etc etc, then still hits the blue screen and flashes and restarts.

I’m using an XP 3 disk from the Microsoft website, downloaded and burned myself (I tested it on another laptop and it loads fine, though I can’t tell if it boots fine since I have Vista on this one).

Am I missing a step or doing something wrong? What do I do?

Is the writing really hard to do well on? At this SAT preparation course students, including my friend and I, took practice tests similar to the SAT, which I know because of taking tests from the blue College Board book and asking another friend who took the SAT and the same course when she was our age, about 2-3 years ago.

My friend got an 800 on writing, and I got a 740, but for some reason when she took the real SAT (I haven’t yet), she only scored a 600. What gives? She was really good at writing and did assignments for 25 minutes in 10 minutes, getting maybe 1 wrong. Also the person who is most likely gonig to be valedictorian at our school only got a 710.

Any tips? In the College Board book I’m scoring in the 700s, getting only maybe 4 wrong with. I think my essays are pretty good. I need a good writing score because math is the easiest for me, probably a pretty easy 770+, but critical reading I’m only getting mid to high 600s. I was counting on the writing, which is easy for me, to get me around 2150-2200, but people aren’t doing good on it. Why?? Advice???
Also, on the PSAT I got a 68 on writing (HOWEVER, only 3 were wrong and none blank; it must have been a bad curve, and after looking at the PSAT I realized one or two of those errors were really stupid mistakes).
I know I need a good score for good colleges. I don’t really need help with writing since I’m getting almost every question right under timed conditions. I just don’t get why such smart people are doing so poorly, including my friend who got an 800 on writing for a practice test similar to the SAT.

I am practicing doing the essay on an SAT in Official SAT Study Guide (collegeboard) and i always get stuck there. I hate the essay sectiona and it takes me 1/2 hour even to get into the topic. I blank out on the books i’ve read or historical facts (i don’t know many) to use for the 3 examples in my essay. and i really want to get a good score on it. what are your suggestions? I have to stop getting stuck at every topic. I suck at brainstorming and making an outline, it takes me a century.

I’m trying to find good test prep for both the ACT and SAT. I have heard that Huntington and Sylvan have good programs but I do not know what the cost is, Could someone please tell me around how much it costs to do these programs and in your opinion which program is better.
I have a hard time learning from just books so I really need tutor of sorts. I already have a good score I just want a better one. I have a 28 and want a 31 at least

im going to be taking my act’s and maybe sat’s at the beginning of next summer, so im going to be studying my butt off this year, which is my junior year in high school. i really want to get the best scores, so i can get into a great school, i know act and sat really matter. so can you please give me ideas on how to get the best scores, should i go to a place like silvan learning center, i think they offer tutoring for act and sat but im not sure. PLEASE HELP! thanks

I’m in the midst of installing my Vonage device. However, the Ethernet port on my laptop doesn’t work. I tested this using my cable modem; it works if I use the USB cable versus Ethernet. Unfortunately, my Vonage device works on Ethernet. I’d like to know if anyone has run into the same issue and if they were able to fix the problem. I’m waiting for Vonage Customer Support to contact me; not sure if I will need an Ethernet-USB adapter.

For example, an SAT 2007 guide could be bought by someone in 2010 and still be "usable".

Mail Order CD Company charges a shipping fee of .00 for the first CD, .50 for the second CD, and .00 for each additional CD. For example, the shipping cost for 3 CD’s is .00+.50+.00 a total of .50. If Sharon orders 20 CD’s, how much money would she save if they shipped 4 packages of 5 CD’, instead of 5 packages of 4 CD’s?
